Soldier Darryn Bezuidenhout jailed for domestic abuse
Darryn Bezuidenhout, 41, a lance corporal serving with 2 Scots, The Royal Regiment of Scotland, was jailed for three and a half years at Edinburgh Sheriff Court after repeatedly assaulting and threatening his former partner.
The offences took place in Penicuik between January 2017 and June 2025. During one attack he threw the woman to the ground, sat on top of her and grabbed her neck. On another occasion he gripped her neck, causing her to fall from a chair, before dragging her across the floor.
He also held her, threw her onto a bed and repeatedly spat in her face. Other behaviour included threats to kill her, repeated phone calls and monitoring her movements through a doorbell camera.
Bezuidenhout, who had been living at Glencorse Barracks, denied the allegations but was convicted of three charges following a six-day jury trial. A restraining order was also imposed.
