A serial rapist who attacked teenage victims, used weapons to intimidate them and threatened to expose intimate images has been jailed for 11 years.

Alan Boyd, 35, of Irvine, Ayrshire, began offending at just 14. A jury at the High Court in Glasgow convicted him of eight charges involving five victims between 2005 and 2024, including the rape of three of them. Most were teenagers when he targeted them.

One victim suffered violence that included Boyd slamming her face into the ground, striking her with a guitar and threatening her with a blade.

He also raped her despite her repeatedly telling him no. She did not report him at the time, describing feelings of shame, but later spoke to officers investigating his offending.

Another girl was subjected to an indecent assault in a room at their school after Boyd showed her a knife in his bag. He pushed her against a door and groped her. The attack ended when the school bell rang.

A third victim woke to find Boyd on top of her. Jurors convicted him of raping her.

Boyd also raped another young victim in a car near a graveyard, ignoring her pleas to stop. During other attacks, he choked her, pinned her down and spat on her. He mocked her appearance and threatened to share intimate images. The court heard that she became withdrawn after previously being outgoing.

His final victim was subjected to abusive behaviour, including persistent phone and online contact and aggression. Boyd threatened to take her to court for £1,300 for “therapy for a broken heart”, alongside £600 for grass cutting.

Boyd denied the sexual offences, claiming the victims had consented. The jury rejected his account.

Sentencing him, Judge Watson said Boyd had shown no remorse or insight into the harm he had caused. Alongside his 11-year prison term, he was ordered to undergo three years of supervision following release.
