A sex predator who filmed himself r*ping a sleeping 16-year-old girl and secretly recorded five other girls in a bathroom has been jailed for 20 years and eight months.

John Curtis, 41, was also found with more than 15,000 indecent images of children, including footage showing the r*pe of a baby.

Douglas Courthouse heard that Curtis attacked the teenager as she slept on 1 May 2026. She woke to find him attacking her and called police.

When officers arrested Curtis a short time later, he was carrying a plastic box containing several devices, including a small camera, a hard drive and two mobile phones.

The devices contained footage of the attack, alongside secret recordings of five other girls using a bathroom, including the shower. Investigators also found folders of child abuse images on the hard drive.

Curtis pleaded guilty to 33 offences, including r*pe, attempted r*pe and the taking and possession of indecent images.

Sentencing him, Deemster Graeme Cook described the case as one of “extreme sexual depravity” and told Curtis that the range of his offending was “beyond belief”.

“Some of your victims described you as a monster, and I totally agree,” he said.

The deemster told Curtis he had traumatised six young women and that the teenager he r*ped might never get over what he had done.

Curtis was also given an extended licence period of 10 years following his release. Deemster Cook told him: “I believe the public are in need of protection from you.”
