Nursery worker jailed for sexual assault on toddler

A nursery worker has been jailed for sexually assaulting a toddler in his care and downloading over 40,000 indecent images of children.

Paedophile Richard Turner, 48, was due to face trial at Teesside Crown Court on Tuesday for the assault but instead admitted one count of sexually assaulting the young girl before a jury was sworn in.

He had already admitted downloading over 46,000 depraved photos and videos of children.

Turner, who was living in Catterick Garrison at the time of his offences, pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images and one count of sexual assaulting a child.

He denied two other allegations of sexually assaulting a girl under 13 years of age and failing to disclose the password for a hard drive.

These pleas were accepted by the prosecution and not guilty verdicts were recorded on those two allegations.

The ex-soldier – who was already serving a nine-and-a-half-year jail sentence child sex offences against children – downloaded no less than 46,436 indecent images – 255 of which were rated Category A, the worst kind of such material involving the serious sexual abuse of children.

The enormous collection of photos and movie clips were found on a device at Turner’s home in Catterick and had been downloaded between August 2016 and April 2018, said prosecutor Paul Newcombe.

The court heard Turner, who is a father, committed the offences while working at a North Yorkshire nursery after gaining qualifications in Scotland and then moving to Catterick with his wife.

The mother of the toddler who was sexually assaulted by the paedophile said her daughter had since suffered from “severe anxiety”.

The sexual assault occurred between April 2016 and May 2017, but the offences didn’t come to light until early last year, when Turner was brought in for police questioning.

He was already serving a long prison sentence for previous offences of possessing more than 100,000 indecent images of children and sexual assaults on three very-young girls while taking indecent photos of them.

That sentence was imposed at Teesside Crown Court in August 2019, but Mr Newcombe said that Turner’s new offences were part of the “same tranche” of offending, occurring during the same period but only coming to light years later.

At the time of his first arrest in 2018, Turner was found with a “child-like” prosthetic sex doll at his home in Catterick Garrison, which was searched by police for evidence of online sex crimes.

Officers found “vast collections” of child-abuse images stored on Turner’s computers and digital devices.

As well as the images, police found a rucksack containing children’s underwear and a prosthetic, child-like doll which had been used.

The former military man – who had moved to Leeds by the time he was sentenced for the first set of offences – had left the army after serving for 20 years after suffering serious injuries when a Land Rover he was in was blown up by a roadside bomb during one of his tours of duty in Afghanistan.

Judge Howard Crowson slammed Turner for his latest sexual assault on the toddler which he described as “appalling”.

“She (now) distrusts all men except her father,” said the judge.

“She was particularly vulnerable by reason of her (extremely young age). This has had a very long-term effect upon (her).”

Jailing Turner for a further two-and-a-half years – which will be served consecutive to his current prison term – Mr Crowson said it was a “significantly reduced” sentence because it was effectively part and parcel of his earlier offending.

Turner will remain on the original sexual-harm prevention order, which was imposed at the 2019 sentence and will run indefinitely.

August 2019

Former soldier found with child-like sex doll jailed for sex crimes

A former solider found with a ‘child-like’ prosthetic sex doll has been jailed for almost ten years for a string of sex offences.

The discovery was made when Richard Turner was arrested at his former home at Catterick Garrison as officers searched for evidence of child sex abuse images taken by the 47-year-old.

Teesside Crown Court heard how Turner had a vast collections of child abuse images stored on a number of computers and digital devices, as well as carrying out sexual assaults on three young girls while taking indecent photographs of them.

The court heard how Turner left the army after serving for 20 years after he suffered serious injuries when a Land Rover he was in was blown up by a roadside bomb during one of his tours of duty in Afghanistan.

Turner pleaded guilty to a total of ten charges including five of sexual assault on someone under 13, three charges of possessing indecent images of children and two charges of taking indecent photographs of the young girls.

Sentencing Turner, Judge Stephen Ashurst said the former solider was in possession of more than 100,000 child abuse images with 203 being of the most serious kind.

He added: “As well the images, the police found a rucksack containing children’s underwear and a prosthetic child-like doll which had been used.”

Turner, of Victoria Road, Hyde Park, Leeds, was sentenced to four and half years for the most serious sexual assault with an 18 month consecutive sentence for lesser charges.

He was also given an 18 month consecutive sentence for photographing three victims and a further two year consecutive sentence for possession of the child abuse images. A total of nine and half years.

The judge put him on the sexual harm prevention register indefinitely.

Fantasist paedophile tried to blackmail other men on depraved file-sharing internet sites

A fantasist paedophile who tried to blackmail other men on depraved file-sharing internet sites has been jailed for 27 months and recalled to prison on a life licence.

Naveed Ahmed had been freed from a 20 year jail sentence for only two months when he viewed and distributed vile images of young children being raped, Bradford Crown Court heard today.

Ahmed, 40, of Mannheim Road, Manningham, Bradford, was given a life sentence in 2000 for arson with intent to endanger life, prosecutor Rebecca Young said.

He was released in February last year and by April he was viewing the images and making sick boasts on chat sites that he was abusing children himself.

He was arrested after his Facebook account was closed when he uploaded a Category A indecent image of a child on to it.

On June 5, the police went to his home and seized his phone containing two child rape movies and third indecent image.

Ahmed pleaded guilty to making three Category A indecent images of children and distributing a Category A image, between April and May last year.

Miss Young said there were 269 participants in the online paedophile group that Ahmed had joined.

He claimed to other like-minded deviants that he was himself abusing children but the tales were groundless fantasy, the court was told.

The day before his arrest, Ahmed tried to blackmail another man on the group, demanding £5,000 not to expose his paedophilia.

He was never charged with the offence and told the police he had turned to extortion because he needed money to feed his crack cocaine habit.

The court heard that Ahmed had been recalled to prison on a life licence.

In February, 2000, he was convicted of burglary and arson with intent to endanger life committed in December, 1998.

Miss Young said he ransacked a house and set three separate fires in it. Although the minimum term he had to spend behind bars was short, he was not released for 20 years because the Parole Board did not think it was safe to do so.

Judge Jonathan Rose, who was provided with probation and psychiatric reports, said it was a complex case.

Ahmed had watched degrading and depraved videos and shared vile movies of children being raped. He was a fantasist who posed a danger to children.

“It’s a darkness of mind that is deeply, deeply worrying,” Judge Rose said.

The offences were committed just two months after The Parole Board had deemed it safe to release Ahmed after he had spent 20 years behind bars.

He would not be freed until it was again ruled that he was not a public danger.

Judge Rose made a Sexual Harm Prevention Order to protect children from Ahmed and he must sign on the sex offender register, both orders are for ten years.

Blackpool paedophile convinced teen to send graphic images on Facebook – and then cried about it to police

A Blackpool paedophile groomed two young girls and persuaded one to take part in video calls in which he engaged in sex acts.

Richard Smith contacted two girls, aged 13 and 15, randomly on Facebook while he was living in the seaside town.

The 33-year-old was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order at the time, back in 2017, and when police visited his home Smith began crying and said they would find ‘something on his phone’.

At Preston Crown Court today (May 19) prosecutor Richard Haworth said: “On examination of his phone police found he had been communicating with two females; one aged 13 from North Yorkshire and one aged 15 from West Yorkshire.

“On April 22 in 2018 the 13-year-old was interviewed and said she was contacted at random through Facebook by the defendant nine months previously.

“He told her his age and she told him his. On the video interview she gives the appearance of being very young and obviously 13 or younger.

“She said they communicated for a number of weeks via video calls, text messages and on Facebook.

“He told her not to tell anyone and after five weeks the conversations turned sexual.

“He told her she was sexy and she had a good body. He asked her for nude photos, she initially refused but one day she sent him a picture of her vagina and another of her breasts.

“He asked if she wanted to have sex with him and have kids with him.”

The court heard the girl visited Blackpool with her family to visit her grandparents and told Smith which B&B they were staying in. Smith told her he worked at Subway and asked her to come and see him but fortunately she declined.

He also sent her video clips of him performing sex acts.

The second victim, a 15-year-old girl, declined to cooperate with the police investigation.

Smith had also been communicating with a 16-year-old girl but no charges were brought in relation to that as she was over the age of consent.

Smith has two cautions on his record for inciting a female child to engage in penetrative sexual activity and failing to comply with the notification requirements of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

The judge, Beverley Lunt, said it was clear Smith, who now lives in , had ‘more issues than just alcohol’ and warned him the police would be monitoring him ‘extremely closely’.

Smith, who pleaded guilty to attempting to incite a female under 16 to engage in sexual activity, was given an 18-month jail sentence suspended for two years.

He must also complete 30 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement days and a sex offenders programme.

The judge also imposed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order prohibiting him from having any unsupervised contact with girls under 16.

Beeston paedophile brought to justice over sex offences committed against child and teenager dating back 20 years

A paedophile who committed sex offences against a girl and a teenager has been given an extendend prison sentence.

David Parker was brought to justice two decades after he began offending in the early 2000s.

Parker began abusing the child when she was eight or nine years old and the offending continued for around three years.

Leeds Crown Court heard Parker went on to target a second victim, a teenage girl, more than a decade later.

The offending came to light in 2018 when the teenager reported the abuse.

Parker, 42, of Northcote Green, Beeston, pleaded guilty to three counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14, two offences of sexual assault and causing a girl to engage in sexual activity.

Judge Robin Mairs imposed an extended sentence of nine years, seven months.

Parker must serve a custodial term of eight years, seven months, of which he must serve two-thirds in custody.

He then faces a further year on licence.

Paedophile PCSO, 35, ‘with unhealthy interest in rape and child sex abuse images’ is jailed

A paedophile PCSO who called himself ‘Vile Degrader’ online and an obsession with ‘rape and child sex abuse images’ has been jailed for two years.

Jonathan Plummer, 35, Outwood in Wakefield who downloaded thousands of abuse images also made searches for ‘rape, raping and raped’, Leeds Crown Court heard.

He was convicted of making, possessing and distributing indecent images of children to other like minded paedophiles online.

Plummer used police systems to look up similar offences in a bid to cover his tracks.

The former cyber prevention officer was arrested on August 14, 2018, and devices were seized from his flat, including his phone with the images on it.

The images found were created between July 7, 2017 and August 13, 2018

Prosecutor Louise Reevell said during the trial that indecent images of children, from babies to teenagers, at Category A, B and C, were found on Plummer’s personal phone.

There were also extreme pornographic images.

One was a ‘snuff movie’ showing a naked and bound woman being stabbed with a sword who died at the end of the film, although police believe it was not real.

There were 339 still images and 133 movies at Category A, 258 stills and 25 movies at Category B, and 1,256 still and 42 movies at Category C.

An audit of a police computer system had found that he had been looking at sexual offences and cases involving indecent images of children.

Mrs Reevell said his employment had nothing to do with these sorts of investigations but he was trying to assist in the covering up of his offending.

Plummer told investigating officers he was into BDSM but insisted that the indecent images and prohibited images of children were nothing to do with him.

He told the jury he had ‘many sexual preferences’ but no interest in indecent images of children.

Judge Neil Clark made a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years and ordered Plummer to sign on the sex offender register, also for two years.

He was jailed for two years.
