Photographer Paul Brown jailed for rape during bogus shoots

A photographer who raped models in his studio during bogus casting shoots has been jailed for 21 years.

Paul Brown, 41, from Okehampton, Devon, was convicted at Exeter Crown Court of 15 rapes against six women and voyeurism against five others.

Brown led his victims to believe they could become models if they stripped off and had sex during their casting session.

Sentencing Judge David Evans said Brown was “a compulsive liar and fantasist”.

He said: “You are also that very dangerous thing, an extremely convincing and persuasive liar.”

Brown pleaded guilty to one count of voyeurism, which involved him installing a hidden camera to spy on a woman in a bathroom.

The court previously heard Brown carried out his offences between 2012 and 2018.

His victims’ ages ranged between their late teens and their 60s.

Brown set up a fake modelling agency called Models South West – which he pretended had nothing to do with him – to lure the aspiring models in.

Through the “agency”, Brown contacted women on Facebook, telling them they had the potential to be models. He then invited them to the studio.

Once there, he persuaded some to have sex with him on camera and convinced others to strip for what he called “artistic nude” sessions.

Torquay night porter sex attacker jailed for 12 years

A night porter has been jailed for 12 years for sexually assaulting a guest at a Torquay hotel and raping a teenage girl at his flat in 2007.

Christopher Baker, 44, of Westhill Road, Torquay, was working at the Templestowe Hotel when he attacked the woman in 2014.

Exeter Crown Court was told she had booked into the hotel after a party and was attacked in her room by Baker in the early hours of the morning.

She managed to fight him off and tell the police.

Police investigating the attack then linked Baker through DNA to the rape of a 16-year-old girl in Torbay in 2007.

Baker pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting the woman at the hotel and the historic rape of the teenager.

He was given nine years for the rape and a further three years for the sexual assault.
The court was told the attack in 2007 involved Baker picking up the victim in his car, taking her back to his flat and raping her.

The girl reported the crime but at the time there was no DNA match to Baker.

The detective investigating his crimes praised the bravery of the victims in coming forward.

DC Louise Dutton, of Torquay CID said: “The victim from the sexual assault in 2014 is pleased with this result, and whilst the investigation has been a period of much stress and anxiety for her, she realises that by reporting it she has been able to get justice both for herself and another lady who was attacked back in 2007.

“The lady who was a victim of Baker in 2007 has had many difficult years whilst the offender went unidentified and feels she can finally put this behind her and move on with her life at last.

“This is a great example of why you should always come forward to police if you are a victim of a sexual assault. Not only will we do everything to help and support you, but where there is DNA obtained, we will run this against the database of unsolved national crimes.”

Baker will remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

Paedophile Pinky Caine had so many vile images that police gave up counting

A pervert caught with so many indecent images of children that investigators gave up counting has walked free from court.

Paedophile Pinky Caine, aged 31, (used to be called David Caine) had almost 4,000 illegal photos on his devices and 22,000 more which were never classified.

He had a secret mobile phone and boasted of hiding his internet history so police would not catch him, Plymouth Crown Court heard.

Caine was also in breach of a suspended sentence for identical offences.

But he avoided immediate custody

Handing him a fresh suspended sentence, Judge William Mousley told Caine: “You have been given a huge chance on this occasion. You have come as close as it is possible to get to going straight to prison.

“I am prepared to accept that you do not constitute an immediate risk of harm to the public. There are still hopes of your rehabilitation through work which is ongoing.”

The judge said that there were 22,000 images on his devices which were “questionable”.

These were not classified and so cannot be said to be indecent in law.

Caine, of St Johns Terrace in Totnes, pleaded guilty to four counts of possession of indecent images of children

The vast majority of the 3,902 files found on his devices were in the lowest bracket, but some were in Category A. These, including videos, depicted adults abusing children.

He also admitted breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order by having an internet enabled mobile phone which was not declared to the police.

Ian Graham, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said that he was handed that order after he was convicted of making indecent images of children in July 2017.

He was given a 12-month prison sentence suspended for two years.

Mr Graham said that police found indecent images on his devices in both May and December 2018.

Judge Mousley handed Caine a fresh nine-month prison sentence but suspended it for two years.

He ordered that he have six-month alcohol treatment and 35 days of probation’s intensive Rehabilitation Activity Requirement.

Caine was also fined £1,000 for breaching his original suspended sentence.

The judge also ordered that his phones and computers be forfeited.

Update: Handed a suspended sentence

Snapchat sex predator placed on sex offenders’ register

A Snapchat pest who tried to bully a 14-year-old girl into sending him nude selfies has been sent on a sex offenders’ course.

Danny Wright lied about his age and claimed to be a 16-year-old schoolboy as he pestered the frightened girl on Snapchat and with WhatsApp messages.

His messages became more aggressive when she refused to send images of herself in underwear and he demanded she pose totally naked.

She alerted her mother and the police after finding out that he was actually aged 22, Exeter Crown Court was told.

The incident left her so shaken that she started missing school and needed help from the child and adolescent psychiatric service CAMS.

Wright, now aged 23, of Torrington Road, Winkleigh, admitted sexual communication with a child and was ordered to attend a sex offenders’ treatment programme and do 35 days of rehabilitation activities as part of a three year community order.

He was banned from any further contact with the child by a five-year restraining order and put on the sex offenders’ register for the same period of time.

Judge Peter Johnson told him he could expect to go to prison if he broke either of the orders or failed to complete the programme.

He said: “Your attention had a marked effect on the victim’s development, as is shown by her impact statement. She has been referred to CAMS.”

Caroline Bolt, prosecuting, said Wright made contact with the girl in June 2019 because he saw her picture on Snapchat. He claimed to be 16 and when she checked the age on his WhatsApp profile, he claimed it was his brother.

He told her he was ‘really horny for you’ and asked for selfies of her in underwear. He got angry when she said no and demanded nude pictures, which she also refused.

Depraved babysitter abused toddler and sent videos to paedophile lover in Exeter

A depraved babysitter who sexually abused a toddler in her care and sent videos to her paedophile lover has been jailed.

Paige Poole, 29, and Ross Kingsland, 44, met on an extreme fetish website and described each other as sharing the same ‘black heart’.

Poole filmed herself sexually abusing the child and sent the images to Kingsland, a married man living in Exeter, who encouraged her vile behaviour.

The pair appeared at Exeter Crown Court to be sentenced for a long list of horrifying offences committed against a child.

Poole, an American who was living in the capital at the time, was jailed for 17 years, including four years on extended licence.

Kingsland was sentenced to 15 years, also including the extended term.

Judge David Evans said: “You were both adults who knew what you were doing each and every step of the way. Each chose to plan and enact their deviant desires. This was a true meeting of wicked minds.

“The bald truth is that each of you is a morally corrupt paedophile and it was the great misfortune of others that you found each other. You have deliberately and together caused the most awful distress to a good number of people. You have destroyed the lives of individuals and families concerned.”

Prosecutor, Mr Jason Beal, told the court pair were tracked down in the summer of 2020.

Poole, who had arrived in the UK in 2018 and married an Englishman, turned up on the doorstep of Kingsland’s family home in Exeter.

She claimed to be his girlfriend and said she was worried about where her was.

It turned out the pair had met on an online adult sex party website called ‘Killing Kittens’. He travelled to meet Poole in London and the pair started a relationship.

They began sharing their paedophile desires and police found hundreds of messages between the pair setting out their wish to have children together in order to abuse them.

Kingsland and Poole conspired together to abuse a one-year-old child, said Mr Beal. Poole sexually abused the child on numerous occasions.

The pair would then send each other WhatsApp messages detailing what had happened. Kingsland would enthusiastically respond by calling Poole ‘my Dark Angel’. He told her: “You make my black heart so happy” and sent emojis.

Poole could be heard laughing while committing some of the abuse.

Poole pleaded guilty to multiple sexual offences again the child. They included eleven sexual assaults, conspiracy to assault a child, engaging in asexual activity with a child, taking indecent photos of a child, and distributing indecent photos of a child.

She also admitted conspiracy to rape a second girl.

Mr Beal said this offences related to Kingsland travelling to London and visiting Poole’s address, although there was no evidence he had actually physically abused any child.

The court heard a harrowing victim impact statements from the parents of both children.

They said it was impossible to put into words the level of distress their pair’s actions had caused. They will suffer a life sentence knowing they could not protect their children from Poole’s abuse and found it difficult to trust anyone with the children again.

They described her as ‘dangerous, calculating and conniving’.

Kingsland pleaded guilty to multiple offences.

They included conspiracy to assault a child under 13, aiding and abetting the sexual abuse of a child, conspiracy to rape a child, distributing indecent photos of a child and making indecent photos of a child.

At the time of the offences, he had already come to the attention of the Metropolitan Police who were investigating online paedophiles.

Kingsland had made contact via an online chat group with someone he thought was a fellow child abuser. It turned out to be an undercover police officer.

He arranged to meet the officer in the hope of abusing children aged eight and 12.

He shared a video of a woman abusing a child and planned to visit London, complaining that lockdown was getting in the way. He was arrested by police in July last year.

It was while he was in custody that Poole turned up at his home in Exeter. At first she expressed shock at his behaviour but when police checked her phones they found evidence of their shared desires and the sickening videos she had tried to delete.

Kingsland has a previous conviction dating back to 2012 for exposing himself two 12-year-old girls. Poole has minor convictions for driving offences in the US.
