Pontypool paedophile handed suspended jail sentence

A pervert who downloaded child abuse images was ordered to attend a sex offender programme after a judge told him: “You have a problem.”

Lewis Browne, 29, of Glenview Road, Trevethin, Pontypool, was also handed a suspended jail sentence at Cardiff Crown Court.

Byron Broadstock, prosecuting, said the defendant had downloaded hundreds of indecent images of children, including 81 category A pictures depicting the most serious type of abuse.

Factory worker Browne pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children.

He also admitted possession of a prohibited image of a child and possession of extreme pornography.

The offences were committed between November 15, 2017 and June 17, 2019.

Judge Michael Fitton QC told Browne: “You have a problem with paedophilic material.

“Unless you deal with this, it will ruin your life.”

The defendant must attend 35 sessions of the Horizon sex offender programme.

Browne was jailed for eight months, suspended for two years, and ordered to complete a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

He must register as a sex offender until 2030 and was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order for the next 10 years.

Browne must also pay £535 prosecution costs and a £140 victim surcharge

Teen rapist jailed after his parents marched him into police station and forced him to confess

A teenage rapist who forced himself on a girl was jailed after his parents made him to confess when they found he had texted his victim to say sorry.

Restaurant worker Jack Evans, 18, nearly escaped justice over the sex attack because the women never complained.

But when he apologised to her by text two months later his appalled dad Jonathan and his stepmother saw the message and told him to tell police.

They marched him to a police station where he told officers his name and what he had done.

They tracked down his victim, who had been a virgin, who told them about the attack and he was charged with rape.

Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court heard she had told him to stop at the last minute but he had carried on.

Prosecutor Claire Pickthall said: ‘She didn’t make a complaint but two months later Evans and his stepmother turned up at a police station to say what had happened.’

The victim, who was a virgin, said she was left feeling ‘worthless” and unable to trust men again.

Evans, of Pontypool, South Wales, was jailed for two years and ordered to register as a sex offender.

He was watched by his biological mother, who he told he loved as he was sent down.

Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke said there were aggravating features and Evans had to be locked up.

She told him: “Two months after the rape you apologised to your victim and said you understood why she was upset.

“But that text came came to the attention of your father and mother who took you to a police station.

“You told an officer your name and said you’d has sex with the young woman.”

His father said outside court: ‘I wanted him to tell the truth, he had to do the right thing and admit his guilt.’

Cwmbran paedophile shared sickening child abuse images

A pervert was caught after he shared “depraved” child abuse images by sending them to another man via WhatsApp who was being investigated by the police.

Matthew Parry, formerly of Cwmbran, also had further sickening sexual pictures and videos of girls aged between four and 12 on his LG mobile phone.

Lowri Patterson told Cardiff Crown Court how the 43-year-old shared the images with a fellow paedophile who was later arrested by Avon and Somerset Police.

Detectives in England passed on the information to their colleagues in the Gwent force and Parry’s home was raided just before Christmas 2018.

Williams how the defendant had distributed one category A image, depicting the worst kind of child abuse, two at category B and eight at category C.

Parry was also in possession of 28 category A images, 23 at category B and 62 at category C.

There were 15 videos and 98 pictures.

The prosecutor said: “When he was arrested, he explained to the police, ‘I was sent them and I should have contacted you’.

“There are some images where the victims are clearly in a state of distress.”

Parry pleaded guilty to three counts of distributing indecent images of children and three counts of the possession of indecent images of children.

Judge Richard Williams told Parry, now of Fernhill, Glenboi, Mountain Ash, the images he had were “of a gross and depraved natured”.

But he said he was prepared to suspend the inevitable prison sentence.

The defendant was jailed for 16 months, suspended for 12 months.

Parry was ordered to complete a 30-day rehabilitation activity requirement, pay £420 prosecution costs and a victim surcharge.

The defendant will have to register as a sex offender for 10 years and was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order.

He admitted three counts of distributing category A, B and C images and three of possessing category A, B and C images.

The offences were committed on December 19, 2018.

Parry’s barrister Harry Baker asked that a pre-sentence report into his client be prepared by the Probation Service.

Paedophile Michael Hillitt jailed for 21 years at Cardiff Crown Court

An “irredeemable paedophile” has been sentenced to 21 years in jail after being found guilty of a string of rape and child sexual abuse charges.

Michael Hillitt, 69, denied 32 offences but was convicted and sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court.

In a court statement, one victim said: “Everything was a struggle and I didn’t have a clue when he was going to assault me next.”

The court heard Hillitt’s “sexual deviance” spanned six decades.

Among the offences, Hillitt, from Cwrt Dowlais, Cwmbran, Torfaen, was convicted of rape, attempted rape, causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, sexual assault of a child under 13, causing a child to watch a sexual act, engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child and sexual activity with a child.

Judge Daniel Williams said Hillitt’s crimes were uncovered when one of his victims told a nurse on a psychiatric ward about the abuse.

“Through shame and embarrassment the assaults were not disclosed for many years,” he said.

The court heard Hillitt had also been convicted for a serious sexual offence on a nine-year-old boy in 1968.

“Your sexual deviance spans six decades. You are an irredeemable paedophile,” said Judge Williams.

He made Hillitt the subject of a sexual harm prevention order for life.

And he praised the bravery of Hillitt’s victims for coming forward.

November 2019

Pervert “took away a young boy’s innocence”

A judge told Stuart Bladen, aged 42, of Broadway, Pontypool, he was a dangerous offender and that he “posed a significant risk of harm to children”.

Newport Crown Court heard how his victim wanted to kill himself after being attacked by the convicted sex offender.

Bladen pleaded guilty to causing and inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity.

The defendant had two previous convictions against children including indecent assault and for amassing a “revolting collection” of abuse images.

Prosecutor Ieuan Bennett said the most recent offences came to light when the boy told his mother the defendant “he had been doing stuff to him”.

Mr Bennett read the complainant’s victim impact statement in which the complainant described feeling “really angry” after suffering at Bladen’s hands.

He revealed: “I wanted to kill myself because I was so scared.”

When the defendant was arrested, he denied he had committed the offences.

The court was told that Bladen was sent to a young offender institution in 1995 for three months when he was aged 18 for indecently assaulting a 14-year-old boy.

In December 2016 he was jailed for 12 months, suspended for 24 months, and made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order for possessing indecent images children.

John Hipkin, mitigating, said his client had entered guilty pleas which had prevented the victim from having to give evidence in court.

Judge Richard Williams told Bladen: “The effect on the complainant has been a profound one. You have taken his innocence away from him.

“You have left him a bitter and unhappy child.

“You pose a significant risk of harm to children and you are a dangerous offender.”

Judge Williams jailed him for a total of 12 years which is made of eight years in custody and four years on extended licence after his release from custody.

He must register as a sex offender for life and pay a victim surcharge.
