Victim’s relief as North Wales sex attacker is jailed

A women who was sexually assaulted in a dark alleyway has spoken of her relief after the attacker was jailed yesterday.

Shamed shop worker Daniel Morrall, who previously appeared on the Jeremy Kyle television show, hid his face from public view when he received four years prison for what a judge described as a vicious and brutal sex attack.

Morrall, said to have acted like a sexual predator, put his jumper over his head to hide when sentenced at Mold Crown Court.

The 21-year-old from Abergele Road, Old Colwyn, denied sexual assault in a dark and secluded lane behind shops in Colwyn Bay in the early hours of Sunday November 30.

But he was ordered to register with the police as a sex offender for life.

Last night, the 34-year-old victim told the Daily Post of her relief at him being sent behind bars, but felt the sentence should have been longer.

She said: “He’s a monster, he’s brutal and I’m glad he’s finally in prison.

“It should have been longer though because I’m still suffering. I still can’t leave my house and am finding things very hard.

“The only good day I’ve had recently was Mother’s Day, when my family were around me.

She added: “I can’t wait to get out of Colwyn Bay and am on the housing list to go somewhere else. I just want to move on now.”

The victim was out looking for her boyfriend on the night, and told Morrall she was not interested when he chatted her up, said prosecutor Mark Connor.

Morrall, who had been on the Jeremy Kyle show over his slot machine addiction, gave the victim “an evil stare” as they walked along after she said she recognised him from the programme.

He followed her down a dark area, grabbed her and punched her to the ground, then inflicted what the judge called a brutal and vicious sexual assault upon her.

Judge Merfyn Hughes QC said Morrall, who had drunk 20 pints, had followed her.

“You grabbed her, punched her to the ground and using a significant amount of force, you sexually assaulted her,” the judge said.

The judge said that there was a degree of premeditation and predatory behaviour. It was a brutal attack where he tore her underclothes and used force.

The trauma caused to the victim was very apparent. “Rarely has this court seen such distress shown by a victim giving evidence,” he said.

Morrall was considered a high risk of sexual offending, he took no responsibility for the offence, had no insight into the effect it had and had no victim empathy whatsoever.

But he had no previous sexual convictions and the judge said with some hesitation he had decided against an indeterminate sentence to protect the public.

Lack of internet history breached sexual harm prevention order

A man has been jailed after he breached his sexual harm prevention order by deleting the history of his internet use on his iphone.

Deryck Michael Hughes, 56, went to re-register himself as a sex offender with police but did not take his phone with him.

Mold Crown Court heard how police made an un-announced visit to his home in February.

He said that he iphone did not retain history but could not explain why he had therefore continued to use it.

Prosecuting barrister Karl Scholz said that the phone was examined and it was found that it had visited various sites but the history had been deleted.

Judge Rhys Rowlands said that it had been a calculated, deliberate attempt to frustrate the terms of the order.

“Such behaviour is manipulative and worrying,” he said.

It called into question his motivation to change and address his previous unnatural behaviour of seeking out illegal images of children

Hughes, of St David’s Road, Old Colwyn, was jailed for seven months but the judge ordered that the current community order should remain in place.

The defendant admitted breaching his sexual harm prevention order.

The defendant accepted that he would have to take professional advice about the use of a phone to reduce the risk of deliberate or inadvertent breaching his order.

Jail for paedophile who tried to cover his tracks

A convicted paedophile has been locked for viewing indecent images of children while under supervision for similar offences.

Aldo Vecchio breached an order banning him from deleting the internet history of any devices he owned, which was put in place after previous offences.

He admitted downloading indecent images and breaching the Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) when he was up before Caernarfon Crown Court for sentence today.

The 51-year-old, formerly of Llandudno , was jailed for a total of eight months.

The judge, Mr Recorder Simon Mills, said: “You could have told your offender manager or a police officer you were having urges to view this kind of material. Instead you told yourself, ‘I won’t get caught’.

“You have a fixation to this type of material and this was the flouting of a court order to prevent being caught.

“You’ve been given a Community Order before but you have to learn that offending in this way has consequnces. If you offend again the sentences will get longer and longer.”

Richard Edwards, prosecuting, said the order prevented Vecchio from deleting the browsing history of any device connected to the internet.

The order followed Vecchio’s guilty plea to downloading indecent images of children in May 2016, for which he received a three year Community Order and the SHPO.

He said the current matter came to light in March this year when his partner found out about the conviction. An USB pen drive was checked in a laptop and both were found to be clear of files and folders.

“A further search revealed a number o video clips had been accessed late at night and the titles of these videos gave rise for concern and the police were alerted.

“When the police spoke with the defendant he said the material was present from the previous conviction but the device was seized and examined by the high tech unit and this was found not to be the case,” said Mr Edwards.

Further examination by the police experts found 19 indecent images of children, predominantly female teenagers aged between 12 and 16, were found.

The judge remarked 350 other files with titles indicative of indecent images could not be accessed by the experts.

Vecchio, who now lives in Huddersfield, must also comply with a further Sexual Harm Prevention Order for the next 10 years. He must register as a sex offender for the same period.

Pervert admits he shouldn’t have been chatting to ‘teen girls’ on Facebook

Philip Broadbent was confronted by paedophile hunters after he’d been caught sending illicit messages to what he thought were teenagers online.

Broadbent, of of Maes Canol, Abergele , believed that he had been chatting to at least four 13 to 14-year-old girls on Facebook messenger.

However, unbeknown to him at the time, he was actually speaking to ‘decoys’ from the Totnes Justice.

They then sent members of another paedophile hunting group – called Leave Our Kids Alone – to confront him at his home.

Leave Our Kids Alone and Totnes Justice are an online groups made up of individuals who say they gather evidence against individuals believed to be a danger to young children.

Members of the group had been acting as ‘decoys’, pretending to be young children online to attract and catch predators like Broadbent.

The group live streamed the incident through their Facebook page.

The team confronted Broadbent with what they claimed was ‘at least 200 pages’ of chat history containing illicit messages.

In the video, they are seen to tell Broadbent that he will not be harmed or ‘beaten up’ by members and that police had been called.

When confronted Broadbent appears to be visibly agitated, constantly shifting and unable to stand still.

When questioned, Broadbent admits his guilt on video saying: “I know it was wrong, I shouldn’t have done it.

“I’ll just have to take what’s coming to me.”

He goes on to give a range of ‘excuses’ as to why he sent messages of a sexual nature and pornographic images to underage children.

The group then explain that they would hand over all evidence that they have gathered against Broadbent to police when they arrived at the scene.

Based on that evidence, Broadbent was later sentenced to six months in prison at Caernarfon Crown Court.

He admitted to 15 charges of attempting to incite children to engage in sexual activity.

The judge said: “You sent them images of yourself and other pornographic images and tried repeatedly to get pictures of themselves. You didn’t know they were decoys.”

As well as his six-month sentence, Broadbent was also given a seven-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and has been placed on the sex offenders register for a minimum of seven years.

Twitter ‘monster’ tried to stream video of a toddler being abused to hundreds of followers

A Twitter user accused of swapping child sexual abuse images had distributed it to hundreds of “followers,” a court heard when he was jailed for 32 months.

Daniel Hall, 46, who described himself as a “monster,” had advised a novice Twitter user about how to avoid detection in the exchange of indecent images, Caernarfon Crown Court was told.

The judge, Recorder Simon Mills, said Hall led a “double life.”

At one stage he had tried to stream a 15-minute “utterly sadistic and horrific” film depicting a toddler to a large TV.

“At one point your contact says to you ‘the thing is most seem to enjoy it so much, can’t see what all the fuss is about’. You responded, ’I agree.’ That shows the depth to which your mindset had sunk,” the judge declared.

Recorder Mills said Twitter had been vigilant and reported Hall to international authorities. But he then turned to KiK to carry on his activities.

Prosecuting counsel Simon Mintz said police found 1,212 in the worst category of seriousness among a collection of more than 4,000 images.

Hall worked at the time for a firm on St Asaph business park and lived at Llys Gwilym, Colwyn Bay .

He admitted seven charges of making and distributing images and encouraging or helping another to obtain them.

Mr Mintz said Hall told police it felt like an addiction. “He said it was the worst addiction you can have because you can’t disclose it to anyone,” the barrister added.

Hall now had no contact with his former partner. The judge said it would have been an awful moment when she discovered, from police, his double life.

Recorder Mills imposed a sexual harm prevention order and Hall must register as a sex offender.

“This is a particularly serious case,” the judge said.

Hall had collected the images over two-and-a-half years according to the charges.

“You were part of a network of like-minded individuals,” Recorder Mills added.
