A convicted paedophile who sent indecent messages to girls as young as 13 remained a director of a company offering child safeguarding training to schools.
Graeme Barrie, 55, of Broxburn was placed on the s*x offenders register after admitting indecent communications with two girls aged between 13 and 16.
Yet he continued as a director of Broxburn-based Crown Safety Limited, whose services included courses on protecting children from abuse. The company offered training to primary schools and nurseries and appeared on a West Lothian Council list of preferred contractors eligible to apply for public sector work.
Selkirk Sheriff Court heard that, between June 2011 and August 2013, Barrie repeatedly questioned the girls about their s*xual experiences and made obscene comments about their bodies.
He pleaded guilty in August 2025. Instead of being jailed, he was ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work, placed under social work supervision for two years and added to the s*x offenders register.
Police are now investigating how many schools in the West Lothian Council area hired Crown Safety to provide training, according to The Scottish Sun on Sunday.
The newspaper reported that, after it contacted the company, Companies House records were updated to show that Barrie had resigned as a director. His wife, Lisa, became the company’s person with significant control.
Barrie, who is now barred from working in schools, also works as a wedding DJ and assists with his wife’s photography business. Asked about the training business, he said: “I’m not involved in that side of the business.”
The case raises serious questions about how a convicted child s*x offender remained a director of a firm offering safeguarding courses, and what checks were carried out when the company was used
