David Bennet sentenced for abuse of three partners
David Bennet, 39, of Glenrothes, Fife, received a seven-year extended sentence after a jury found him guilty of assaulting and injuring three partners between 2006 and 2013. Previously known as Andrew Oswald, he was also convicted of threatening or abusive behaviour towards one woman.
The court heard that Bennet repeatedly attacked his first victim, including kicking her while she was pregnant and causing her to fall down stairs.
In 2010 he kicked a second partner to the ground and repeatedly struck her head against the floor. Between 2012 and 2013 he attacked a third woman, including pinning her against a wall by her neck.
During another incident he damaged her phone and removed telephone cables to prevent her contacting police.
A pre-sentencing assessment found Bennet posed a very high risk of serious harm to intimate partners. Sheriff Steven Borthwick described the psychological consequences of his offending. Bennet continued to deny the abuse.
The seven-year extended sentence comprised four years in custody and a further three years on licence, backdated to 28 September 2026. Lifelong non-harassment orders were imposed to protect the three women.
