Coventry man jailed for eight years after trying to arrange child s*xual abuse

A Coventry man who tried to arrange the s*xual abuse of young children has been jailed for eight years after unknowingly sharing his plans with an undercover police officer.

Richard Stevenson, 39, of Waveley Road, Coventry, discussed his fantasies of abusing very young children on an online forum and sought a partner to take part, West Midlands Police said. He also sent videos showing child s*xual abuse.

The person he was communicating with was a police officer. Investigators arrested Stevenson in a van in Coventry on 2 May 2026.

Stevenson admitted attempting to arrange a child s*x offence and making and distributing indecent images of children. At Warwick Crown Court on 4 September 2026, he was jailed for eight years, with a further two years on licence.

He was also given an 18-year s*xual harm prevention order and will be on the s*x offenders register for life.

Detective Constable John Marsh said police believed Stevenson was determined to gain access to a child and would have acted on his plans had he had the opportunity.
