Sex offender’s sentencing adjourned

A man convicted of a string of s*xual offences involving a child will remain in custody after his sentencing was delayed until January.

Steven Robins, 62, of Fourth Avenue, Grantham, was due to be sentenced at Lincoln Crown Court on 29 October 2026.

But the hearing was adjourned after Robins said he no longer wanted to be represented by the barrister who led his defence at trial.

Robins was found guilty following a three-day trial in August. His convictions include two charges of making indecent photographs of a child, engaging in sxual activity in the presence of a child under 16, two counts of non-penetrative sxual activity with a child under 16, and causing the s*xual exploitation of a child under 18.

Recorder Simon King agreed to postpone sentencing but warned Robins he had “one chance” to arrange a new legal team.

The judge told him that if he did not have a lawyer when the case returned to court, the hearing would go ahead and he would have to represent himself.

Prosecutor David Eager told the court that giving evidence and the delays in the case had caused significant distress to the victim.

Robins was remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced at Lincoln Crown Court on 18 January 2027.
