Paedo, 54, who impregnated girl, 12, then fled Scotland BLAMED HER for rape

A paedophile who raped a 12-year-old girl then fled the country and blamed the youngster for the attack

Balwinder Singh raped the schoolgirl at a house in Edinburgh in the summer of 2016 but the child victim later complained of having stomach pains.

Her mother took her to a family doctor in December and it was confirmed that she was pregnant and later discovered that her conception date was around mid June.

Because of the advanced stage of her pregnancy a termination could not be carried out and the child went on to give birth.

The girl went into labour early but it was made more difficult because of her naivety, the High Court in Edinburgh heard.

Singh, 54, was brought back to Scotland to face prosecution after he was detained by authorities in Canada.

A judge told Singh: “You have pled guilty to the rape of a 12-year-old child on an occasion in 2016. The victim became pregnant and gave birth which caused her very considerable distress.”

Lady Scott said the rape of a child was always very serious and it appeared from a background report prepared on Singh that on occasion he blamed the girl for his conduct.

The judge added: “There is no suggestion of grooming and, in addition, I take into account that you have pled guilty at an early stage and that you have no prior sexual offending and no relevant record.”

Lady Scott said he would have faced an eight-year sentence of imprisonment if he had been convicted after trial.

He was instead caged for five years and four months after pleading guilty.

Advocate depute Isla Davie QC told the court that the baby was born under sheets at the girl’s request and immediately removed from the rape victim’s room.

She said the girl never saw the baby, but became highly distressed when she heard its cries. The baby was fostered and then adopted.

The prosecutor said the rape victim presented as “a very young, naive, shy, little girl.”

It was found that she had little or no sexual knowledge and her mother had removed her from sex education at school.

Police seeking to identify the father were able to obtain the Guthrie card for the baby to get a DNA profile. Singh was found to have left for Hong Kong before going on to Canada

In January this year Canadian authorities told the Crown that Singh was in custody after being detained over an alleged shoplifting offence.

He was deported and arrested on arrival at London’s Heathrow airport. A DNA sample was taken from him and it was confirmed his DNA was present in that of the child.

Singh earlier admitted that on one occasion between June 1 and July 31 in 2016 he raped the girl and caused her to become pregnant resulting in the birth of a child.

Singh was put on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.

Child sex beast who raped 12-year-old girl and then fled to Canada brought to justice

A child rapist who attacked a 12-year-old girl in Edinburgh and then fled to Canada before being deported is now facing a hefty jail sentence.

Balwinder Singh, 54, forced himself on the child in 2016 and then went on the run.

The pervert attacked the schoolgirl in Edinburgh and then fled to Canada – but he was nabbed in the UK in March this year.

Singh admitted his crime at the High Court in Edinburgh on Monday and faces a long term in jail.

Detective Inspector Jonny Wright of Edinburgh’s Public Protection Unit said: “Today, Singh has pled guilty to raping a 12-year-old child in 2016.

“My thoughts continue to remain with the victim and those impacted by Singh’s actions.

“Singh fled the country soon after the offence came to light and travelled across the world seeking to avoid detection.

“However, his attempts would not be allowed to succeed and as a result of committed national and international partnership working, he was traced and deported from Canada, ultimately leading to his arrest in the UK on March 12.”

Cops worked with their counterparts in Canada, as well as Scottish Police Authority Forensic Services, to secure a conviction.

Singh will be sentenced at a later date.
