Pensioner faces jail for sex assault on young girl in Plymouth

A pensioner faces prison for sexually assaulting a young girl.

Derek Kinsman, aged 67, pleaded guilty to indecently touching the child in Plymouth last year.

A judge at the city’s Crown Court adjourned sentencing but warned that he was facing an immediate jail term “of some length”.

Judge William Mousley told Kinsman: “You have to come back to court on that day. Be prepared for prison.”

Kinsman, of East Taphouse, near Liskeard, pleaded guilty before city magistrates last week to indecent assault on May 4 last year.

He appeared without a lawyer and barrister before the senior court for sentencing.

Judge Mousley adjourned the case until July 24 for the defendant to get legal representation and for probation to prepare a report.

Kinsman was released on bail on condition he co-operates with the probation service.

He has already been ordered to sign the Sex Offender Register ahead of his sentencing
