Paedophile jailed after being caught with indecent images of children named by police

An Addlestone paedophile who made and took indecent images of children over a five-year period has been jailed.

Sergiu Popovici, of Hollies Court in Addlestone, appeared at Guildford Crown Court on Monday, May 18, charged with six sexual offences.

The 31-year-old was charged with taking and making indecent images of children, possessing an extreme pornographic image, and indecent exposure.

Full details of the charges, and when they took place, can be seen below:

  • Count 1: Taking indecent photographs of a child between September 2, 2018 and September 7, 2019;

  • Count 2: Making indecent photographs of a child between April 14, 2015 and January 26, 2019;

  • Count 3: Making indecent photographs of a child between April 17, 2015 and January 26, 2019;

  • Count 4: Making indecent photographs of a child between June 27, 2014 and March 25, 2019;

  • Count 5: Possessing an extreme pornographic image on April 24, 2018;

  • Count 6: Indecent exposure between July 14, 2016 and February 9, 2017.

Popovici was sentenced to 14 months imprisonment and was a handed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

He was ordered to pay a £100 victim surcharge and was given a deprivation order, in respect of his laptop, mobile phone, camera and hard drive.

He was also put on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years and was barred from working with children, the court confirmed.
