Young schoolgirls were lured into online sex

A Wigan teenager who groomed and incited young schoolgirls, via the internet, to engage in sexual activity, has been sentenced to four years’ detention.

Sentencing Jimmy Griezel a judge said that he had caused considerable distress to the vulnerable victims.

The 19-year-old of Atherton Road, Hindley, had pleaded guilty at Liverpool Crown Court to three offences of incitement and two of sexual grooming.

Judge Alan Conrad, QC, said his course of offending involved inciting three girls, aged 10, 12 and 13 from Wigan, to become involved in sexual activity after contacting them via the internet.

He was also in contact with another 13-year-old girl from Merseyside, who he tried to arrange to meet for sex but she kept telling him that she was a child and did not wish to meet up.

“It is apparent you knew the ages of the girls concerned and caused considerable distress to your vulnerable victims. Although it was remote this is a particularly disturbing serious case in which you sought to obtain sexual gratification with girls of a very young age,” said Judge Conrad.

The court heard that Griezel has previous convictions involving sexually assaulting a girl and a boy and had also received an earlier warning for inciting another young boy to engage in sexual activity.
