A 39-YEAR-old community support worker who indecently exposed himself to two young girls in a Wallasey park has been jailed for 12 months.
Liverpool Crown Court heard that Raymond McMahon has a similar previous conviction and had admitted to a probation officer that he had also done it on another occasion, but was not prosecuted.
Judge John Roberts told McMahon, of Royden Road, Upton: “You present a significant risk of serious harm of committing further offences.”
He ordered him to sign on the Sex Offenders Register for ten years and disqualified him from working with children indefinitely.
Deborah Birrell, prosecuting, told the court that about noon, on April 13 this year, a 15-year-old girl and her 13-year-old friend were in the rose garden in Central Park, Liscard.
They saw McMahon, who appeared to be staring at them, and realised his trouser zip was undone and he was playing with himself.
They were uncomfortable and moved away but saw he was still staring at them and was apparently following them.
One girl told her father by phone and he said he would collect them and notified the police.
Officers arrived and saw McMahon, whose jeans were open, getting into a car and they stopped and arrested him.
He admitted he had seen the girls but denied having his zip open and touching himself, said Mrs Birrell.
The court heard that both girls had been uncomfortable and shaken and the older girl no longer goes to the park, as she frequently used to, and is uncomfortable when she sees a lone man.
Paul Wood, defending, said that McMahon had pleaded guilty to exposure and had been candid with the probation service.
He accepts he has a problem and has health issues, including diabetes.
A former butcher, he had worked for six years as a community support worker looking after vulnerable people with mental health, alcohol and drug dependency problems. He has now lost that job because of his behaviour and he is on anti-depressants.
His partner suffered a stroke in 2006 and he helps care for her, said Mr Wood.
