A violent and remorseless boyfriend who grabbed his pregnant partner by the throat, slapped her when she complained of abdominal pain and threatened to burn down her home has been jailed.
Callum Dalton, 31, of Coventry subjected the woman to a sustained campaign of abuse and intimidation before admitting controlling and coercive behaviour at Warwick Crown Court.
He received 15 months in prison and a ten-year ban on contacting her.
The couple began dating in October 2025, and the woman became pregnant shortly afterwards.
During her pregnancy, Dalton subjected her to physical violence alongside relentless control. He checked her phone, challenged her over old messages, isolated her from friends and stopped her attending the gym.
He also objected to her speaking to the father of her other child, repeatedly degraded her and threatened to kill her and members of her family.
In January, Dalton prevented her leaving a Coventry hotel after she discovered him messaging another woman. She escaped but returned after he threatened to take his own life.
On April 21, he grabbed her by the throat at her home and took her keys to prevent her leaving. He also threw a beer bottle at her.
His aggression continued during a prenatal appointment at University Hospital Coventry on May 4, when he verbally abused her, swung his jacket and kicked a car.
On June 27, she complained of abdominal pains. Dalton slapped her and ordered her to stay on the bed.
As she cried, he told her: “I am glad I slapped you now.”
Even when she was eight months pregnant, she faced threats that he would burn down her home.
Prosecutor Caroline Harris told the court the couple separated on August 8, but Dalton’s intimidation continued. CCTV captured him moving bins at the property, and the court heard he shouted at her during calls from payphones.
The abuse left the woman suffering anxiety and sleep problems, affecting her relationships and decision-making. She was forced to leave her home and familiar surroundings.
Dalton initially denied the allegations during a police interview on August 23, claiming she had been intoxicated and had assaulted him during the hotel incident.
He later pleaded guilty to controlling and coercive behaviour and was jailed.
Four other women have since come forward with accounts of domestic abuse, describing similar violence at his hands. Their allegations raise further concerns about the extent of his abuse and how many women may have suffered
