Paedophile PCSO, 35, ‘with unhealthy interest in rape and child sex abuse images’ is jailed

A paedophile PCSO who called himself ‘Vile Degrader’ online and an obsession with ‘rape and child sex abuse images’ has been jailed for two years.

Jonathan Plummer, 35, Outwood in Wakefield who downloaded thousands of abuse images also made searches for ‘rape, raping and raped’, Leeds Crown Court heard.

He was convicted of making, possessing and distributing indecent images of children to other like minded paedophiles online.

Plummer used police systems to look up similar offences in a bid to cover his tracks.

The former cyber prevention officer was arrested on August 14, 2018, and devices were seized from his flat, including his phone with the images on it.

The images found were created between July 7, 2017 and August 13, 2018

Prosecutor Louise Reevell said during the trial that indecent images of children, from babies to teenagers, at Category A, B and C, were found on Plummer’s personal phone.

There were also extreme pornographic images.

One was a ‘snuff movie’ showing a naked and bound woman being stabbed with a sword who died at the end of the film, although police believe it was not real.

There were 339 still images and 133 movies at Category A, 258 stills and 25 movies at Category B, and 1,256 still and 42 movies at Category C.

An audit of a police computer system had found that he had been looking at sexual offences and cases involving indecent images of children.

Mrs Reevell said his employment had nothing to do with these sorts of investigations but he was trying to assist in the covering up of his offending.

Plummer told investigating officers he was into BDSM but insisted that the indecent images and prohibited images of children were nothing to do with him.

He told the jury he had ‘many sexual preferences’ but no interest in indecent images of children.

Judge Neil Clark made a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years and ordered Plummer to sign on the sex offender register, also for two years.

He was jailed for two years.

Ex-police officer jailed for belonging to neo-Nazi group

The first police officer in Britain to be convicted of a terrorism offence was jailed for more than four years on Friday for belonging to a banned neo-Nazi group, possessing extremist material and child sexual abuse images

Benjamin Hannam, 22, of Edmonton, north London who had worked as a probationary police constable with the London Metropolitan Police, was found guilty earlier this month of belonging to National Action.

The group was outlawed after it praised the murder of Jo Cox, a female member of parliament who was killed in a street attack in 2016 by a Nazi-obsessed loner.

Hanman was also convicted of lying on his police application forms and owning terrorism documents. He had previously admitted possessing indecent images of a child.

Hanman, who was dismissed from the force after his conviction, was sentenced on Friday to four years and four months in jail at London’s Old Bailey court.

“Benjamin Hannam lied on his police application and vetting forms in an attempt to hide his dangerous and racist beliefs,” said Jenny Hopkins, Head of the CPS Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division.

Hannam was first known to have become involved with National Action in early 2016, six months before it became the first far-right group to be outlawed in Britain since World War Two.

But he continued with his involvement in it, and with its offshoot NS131 after the government proscribed it.

He lied about having any involvement with a far-right group on his application to join the police in 2018.

Detectives discovered his links in February 2020 following the leak of a database of members of a far-right online forum, Iron March.

At his home, officers found a notebook referring to the far-right group, a guide on how to use knives and weapons, and the manifesto of Norwegian mass killer Anders Behring Breivik, who killed 77 people in 2011 in Norway’s worst peacetime atrocity.

Detectives found Hannam had attended National Action meetings in pubs, taken part in training events, and appeared in online videos after the group was banned, but that there was nothing to suggest he had continued contact after joining the police.

West Yorkshire Police officer caught with sick child abuse videos

A West Yorkshire Police officer was in a ‘downward spiral’ when he downloaded sick child abuse videos, a court heard.

Carl Hardcastle was caught with seven category A videos downloaded between April 1 and October 8 last year when police searched his home in Otley, Leeds.

Hardcastle was suspended by the force and later resigned, but still faces misconduct proceeding seeking to ban him from working for the police ever again.

Hardcastle worked in the ‘Protective Services Crime’ and had served three decades in the police force

The married 57-year-old pleaded guilty to one count of making indecent images of children at a hearing at Leeds Magistrates’ Court.

Hardcastle’s wife attended the sentencing hearing at Leeds Crown Court and was described by the judge as a ‘treasure’ for standing by him.

Judge Rodney Jameson QC said rehabilitation in Hardcastle’s case is “a realistic prospect”.

“Whoever you were and the fact that you had the profession that you did prior to this offending makes no odds. Having the responsibility that you had means that the offending is to that extent more serious even than it might otherwise have been.”

The judge added: “Make sure you make it very plain to your wife that you appreciate what she’s done by standing by you. That woman is a treasure.”

Hardcastle was handed a two-year community order with requirements to undertake the Horizon programme for sex offenders and complete 30 rehabilitation activity days.

He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for five years and made subject to a five-year sexual harm prevention order.

Met Police officer admits possessing indecent images of children

A serving Metropolitan Police officer has admitted possessing indecent images of children and “outraging public decency”.

Detective Constable Paul Allgood, 60, of Enfield was found to have collected the images on five electronic devices.

He pleaded guilty to three counts of making or possessing indecent images of children and three counts of outraging public decency at Wood Green Crown Court on Thursday.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “The court heard that on 4 June 2019 officers from the Online Child Abuse and Exploitation Unit (OCSAE) executed a search warrant at his home address in Enfield.

“Officers arrested Allgood at the address on suspicion of being in possession of indecent images of children.

“In total, 20 devices were seized from his home. Allgood was released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.

“The devices were analysed, and indecent images of children were found.”

The officer was charged in November, after investigation found the images on five electronic devices such as laptops, USB sticks and hard drives.

Allgood, who was attached to Scotland Yard’s economic crime unit, was suspended from duty in January.

Following his conviction, he will be dismissed at formal misconduct proceedings. Allgood is due to appear at Wood Green Crown Court to be sentenced on 25 May.

It comes amid several recent court cases involving Metropolitan Police officers.

Last week, probationary PC Benjamin Hannam was convicted of formerly being a member of neo-Nazi terrorist group National Action.

He is believed to be the first police officer in British history to be found guilty of a terror offence.

Another Metropolitan Police officer, PC Wayne Couzens, 48, is due to go on trial later this year accused of the murder of Sarah Everard.

Ex-police officer tried to get girl to perfom sex act on Kik

A former police officer has been jailed after sending pictures of his privates to what he thought was a 13-year-old girl.

Paedophile Leigh Thompson said he messaged the supposed teenager, called ‘Hannah’, using the handle ‘AnOxfordMan’ because he was ‘lonely and bored’ in the first lockdown.

He started the chat on April 9 by saying ‘hello sexy’ and asked if she had ‘Kik’ – a social media platform.

Despite repeatedly saying she was just 13, the 62-year-old wasn’t bothered – instead, he demanded pictures of her topless and asked ‘Hannah’ if she was a virgin.

However Hannah was not a teenage girl, but a police officer from Thompson’s own former force, using a fake identity to lure him into a trap.

He made references about how ‘hard’ he was and sent a video of a couple having sex on a treadmill.

He asked what she was most looking forward to after lockdown, to which ‘Hannah’ replied ‘McDonald’s’ – he said ‘sex’.

Thompson did not know was that he was actually talking to an undercover police officer from Thames Valley Police.

He was arrested on May 18 and said ‘no comment’ to all of the questions that investigators put to him.

The retired detective, of Osborne Close, Kidlington, appeared in the dock of Oxford Crown Court in a blue suit with a striped shirt yesterday afternoon.

His defence said: He had been speaking to the decoy as a ‘coping strategy’ for lockdown and is currently getting £2,000 a month from his police pension

Judge Maria Lamb said: “I accept you are a man of good character and you have expressed remorse.

“Both [reports] say you participated out of loneliness and boredom but there would have been many people who were lonely and bored in lockdown who did not commit these crimes.

“It was quite clearly for sexual gratification.”

Having previously admitted three charges at Oxford Magistrates’ Court, Judge Lamb sentenced him yesterday afternoon.

For count one of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, he was jailed for nine months.

For count two of attempting to cause a child to watch or look at an image of sexual activity, he was jailed for six months.

For count three of attempting to insight a child to engage in sexual activity, he was jailed for 14 months.

All three will be served concurrently – meaning at the same time.

Despite pleas from his counsel, Judge Lamb said it would ‘not be appropriate’ to suspend the sentence and said he would be spending 14 months behind bars.

She added: “I see no reason why the public purse should bare the costs,” ordering Thompson to pay £425 plus a victim surcharge.

He will also be on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.
