A violent rapist who subjected women to sexual violence, coercive control and stalking tried to silence one of them even while he was in police custody.
Amar Manzoor, 42, from Bolton, was jailed for 22 years at Bolton Crown Court on Monday, October 19, after a jury convicted him of 12 offences.
He raped and assaulted one woman, stalked another so relentlessly that he caused her serious alarm and distress, and raped and attacked a third.
Following his arrest on suspicion of strangulation, Manzoor attempted to contact one of the women from police custody.
Greater Manchester Police said he tried to pressure her into withdrawing her statement and attempted to make her create false contact details to help him avoid detection.
The jury found him guilty of;
– Rape x3
– Controlling and coercive behaviour x2
– Assault x3
– Non-fatal strangulation x1
– Perverting the course of justice x2
– Stalking x1
Statements from the women revealed the lasting damage his abuse had caused.
One described having to change her life to protect herself, leaving her struggling to recognise the person she had become. She said she now felt she was merely existing.
Another said that although she had become stronger, she remained far from healed and feared she would never fully recover.
