The face of “jealous and controlling” Chesterfield man who shared sexual images of his ex-girlfriend on social media

A “jealous and controlling” Chesterfield man shared sexual images of his ex-girlfriend on social media in a “fit of revenge and anger” after their breakup

Sam Mellor, 22, sent naked photos of the girl – who cannot be named for legal reasons – after blackmailing her with them in exchange for sex after the breakup.

Nottingham Crown Court heard how Mellor’s scared victim – just 17 at the time – agreed to meet him for sex.

The disgraced Chesterfield man showed her the images had been deleted from his iPhone “before and after sexual intercourse”.

However Mellor “was not true to his word” – having already backed up the images on another device.

The next day – March 23, 2018 – Mellor sent the photos by Whatsapp, iPhone message and Facebook to a group of friends.

Mellor, who was acquitted of rape during a trial, admitted distributing sexual photos with intent to cause distress and witness intimidation and was jailed for 18 months

Nottingham Recorder Balraj Bhatia QC told him: “I remember during your trial how distressing it was for her having to live with that exposure in a relatively small community where she was known and to have all of her images put on social media.

“The anxiety it caused – she was still so young.”

During Mellor’s trial a jury heard how Mellor’s young victim was only 15 when they met and during the two-year relationship she sent him 200 images after he requested them.

Recorder Bhatia said: “You had been in a relationship with her for two years – you were immature, controlling and extremely jealous.

“She called you boring and you did not like that – you wanted to have power over her.

“During the relationship she sent at your request a number of sexual photos of her from her phone to your phone.

“Sadly a practise all too common – and that allowed you to maintain a degree of power and control over her.”

The court heard how after Mellor’s former girlfriend reported him to the police he threatened her saying “if this goes to court I know people in Chesterfield who are real nutters who will go for you”.

Recorder Bhatia said: “You made it clear after the break up that unless she did what you wanted you would disclose or distribute those images over social media platforms

“Even when she did what you wanted when she made it plain she did not want to pursue a relationship in a fit of revenge and anger you distributed those images of her.”

The judge told Mellor he would have “no problem” imposing an immediate custodial sentence.

However because Mellor had already served the equivalent of 34 months under electronic curfew that would mean his immediate release.

Mellor, of Romford Way, Barrow Hill, was placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.

Recorder Bhatia told him: “You have effectively served your sentence.

Repulsive pervert asked underage girl to get naked

A pervert sent “graphic messages” to someone he believed was an underage girl, a court has heard.

Alisdair Williams, 45, was told by magistrates that his offending was “repugant and repulsive” but he avoided an immediate jail sentence because this was his first offence.

He appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court where he admitted attempting to communicate with a person under 16 by asking the child to get naked and wanting to touch and make love to the child in Hilton between June 7 and 13.

The 45-year-old, of King Street, Alfreton, has been given a 26-week prison sentence which was suspended for two years after magistrates were told that he made more than one attempt to contact a child and that graphic messages were sent.

Magistrates added that the, “court would be failing in its public duty if it did not impose a custodial sentence given the repugnant and repulsive nature of this offending”.

His sentence was suspended because magistrates were told he has no previous convictions and there was a realistic prospect of rehabilitation.

He has also been ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £128 victim surcharge. He is required to sign the sexual offenders’ register for seven years.

Derby sex offender found cowering under mattress after fleeing police

A sex offender from Derby was found hiding under a mattress after running away from a police station when he was told he was about to be arrested.

Officers found Matty Matthews cowering in the bedroom when they were told he was holed up at a property in Spondon.

The 34-year-old, who is also known as Matty Taylor, was supposed to tell the police where he was living under the terms of his sex offender register notification.

But Derby Crown Court heard how during August and September he registered a number of different city addresses with police where he claimed to be living.

These included Rivermead House, in Bath Street, Arnhem Terrace, in Spondon and Willowcroft Road, in Spondon, the home of his new partner.

Joey Kwong, prosecuting, said: “Visits by officers found that he was no longer living at either Rivermead House or Arnhem Terrace.

“On September 25, Mr Matthews walked into St Mary’s Wharf and asked if he was going to be arrested.

“When the officer said ‘yes’ he ran off up Prime Parkway.

“Two days later police went to an address in Willowcroft Road where they spoke to a female who denied he was there.

“But they searched the house and found him hiding under a mattress and he was arrested.”

Mr Kwong said Matthews, of Willowcroft Road, had a number of previous convictions, including serious sexual offences, but the details of them were not read out in court.

He also said the defendant had a bad record for complying with the terms of the sex offender register and had previously been handed jail terms of up to three years for breaching its terms.

Matthews’ latest offence saw him plead guilty to failing to comply with the terms of the register.

Jailing Matthews for 18 months, Recorder Paul Mann QC said: “You have a bad history of offending so far as sexual offences are concerned and you have a bad history of breaching the terms of your requirements.

“You have, over recent years, served long prison sentences as a result of this.”

Pervert calling himself ‘Sir Jim’ snared by paedophile hunters in Derby

A pervert using the name “Sir Jim 76” ended up being surrounded by a group of paedophile hunters in Mackworth.

Derby Crown Court heard how Jamie Nicholls told people online he thought were children to touch themselves sexually and send him explicit photos of themselves.

When the 44-year-old was arrested and interviewed he claimed he was in Prince Charles Avenue to meet a 26-year-old woman and not a child.

But he later admitted to sexual chat with the victims, who were both decoys claiming to be girls aged 12 and 13.

Handing Nicholls, of Chesterfield, a two-year community order, Judge Jonathan Bennett said: “These are serious matters for a number of reasons.

“Firstly, it spanned a number of months and there were two different people.

“You asked for pictures of them and then told them you wanted to feel various parts of their anatomy.”

He told Nicholls, who has cerebral palsy: “Let me make it absolutely clear, I am reserving any breaches (of the order) to myself and, cerebral palsy or not, you will be going to custody.”

Fergus Malone, prosecuting, said two different paedophile hunter groups posing as young girls entered online conversations with Nicholls, of York Street, Hasland, in 2019.

He said over a matter of months he asked for photos of them and made sexual comments to them.

Mr Malone said: “On December 30, 2019, police were alerted to an incident by a phone call from someone saying ‘Jamie Nicholls is a sexual groomer and is currently surrounded by a group of activists who deal with online child abuse’.

“He said it was outside the Co-op in Prince Charles Avenue, Mackworth, Derby, and was arrested.

“Following investigations it was found that he had been communicating with two child decoys in 2019.”

The defendant pleaded guilty to six counts of attempting to engage a child in sexual communication.

As part of the community order Nicholls must carry out 100 hours of unpaid work and attend 35 rehabilitation sessions.

He was placed on the Sex Offender Register for 10 years and was handed a 10-year sexual harm prevention order.

Nicholls was also ordered to pay £340 costs and a £90 victim surcharge.

March 2021

Derby IT worker caught with horrific images of young girls being abused

A Derby pervert was found to have made an internet search for “the paedophile’s guide to love and pleasure”.

Christopher Eaves also downloaded sick child abuse images of girls as young as two years old during a spell of offending that lasted a number of years.

The more serious ones, which typically show adults engaged in sex with children, were of girls as young as six.

Handing the 40-year-old IT worker a six-month jail sentence, suspended for two years, Judge John Burgess said: “These images are real children being abused.

“It’s the market that drives the abuse of children and people make money from it.

“If it were not for people like you then there would be no market.

“You are effectively sponsoring the abuse of children.”

Esther Harrison, prosecuting at Derby Crown Court, said the dates of the offences spanned from 2011 to 2019 although the evidence later showed most of the offending happened before 2015.

She said police became aware that an internet address linked to the defendant’s then home in Hartland Drive, Sunny Hill, was recognised as downloading child abuse images.

Miss Harrison said: “A warrant was issued on October 14, 2019.

“The defendant was present along with his girlfriend, he was arrested and a number of devices were seized.

“He gave no comment answers in his police interview and the one device of note contained 35 x category A images, 47 x category B and 286 x category C images.

“The category A contained images of girls as young as 6, the category B between the ages of two and five and the category C again as young as five.

Also discovered was an internet search term entitled ‘the paedophile’s guide to love and pleasure’ which appeared to have been used in his browser.

“It also appears he was arrested on similar matters in 2013 but no charges were brought.

“He is aged 40 and of previous good character.”

Eaves, now of Hilltop, Oakwood, previously pleaded guilty to three counts of making (downloading) indecent images of children.

As part of the suspended sentence Eaves must undertake 35 rehabilitation sessions with the probation service.

He was also handed a seven-year sexual harm prevention order and was placed on the sex offender register for seven years.

February 2021

Middle-aged Derby pervert admits making sick child abuse images

A 40-year-old Derby pervert has admitted to possessing vile child abuse images.

Appearing from his Oakwood home via a link into Derby Crown Court, Christopher Eaves pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children.

He admitted that between November 2011 and October 2019 he made 35 of the most serious category A images.

Photographs and pictures of this type typically show young children engaged in full sexual activity with adults.

Eaves, of Hilltop, also pleased guilty to making 47 category B and 268 category C images between the same dates.

Laura Hocknell, his barrister, successfully applied for an adjournment so her client can be interviewed by the probation service and a pre-sentence report be prepared.

Judge Jonathan Bennett granted that and handed the defendant bail.

He told Eaves he would sentence him on March 26.
