A man who attempted to rape an extremely intoxicated woman near an Oxford underpass has been jailed for seven years and six months.

Qadeer Hussain, 35, of Rutland Avenue, High Wycombe, was caught on CCTV forcing himself on the woman. Police arrested him at the scene on March 28. He admitted attempted rape on the first day of his trial at Oxford Crown Court.

The pair had met earlier that day at Oxford Railway Station and had been drinking together. By the time Hussain attacked her, the court heard, the woman was extremely intoxicated and could remember little of what happened.

His attack has left her struggling to cope, withdrawing from outings with friends and afraid to walk alone. In a statement read to the court, she said: “It has broken my heart and I just don’t feel safe anymore.”

Hussain was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison and made subject to sex offender notification requirements for life.
