Jack Conn-Peers jailed for attacking pregnant partner
A domestic abuser who headbutted his pregnant partner in the face and then admitted it so he could “get a shorter sentence” has been jailed.
Jack Conn-Peers, 27, of Broadway, Connah’s Quay, was sentenced to 39 months in prison at Mold Crown Court after admitting intentional strangulation and assault occasioning actual bodily harm against his then-partner.
The court heard that Conn-Peers strangled the victim for between seven and nine seconds during an incident between June and September 2022. On 21 July 2023, he headbutted her in the face in Sealand while she was pregnant with his child.
Recorder Neil Owen-Casey said Conn-Peers appeared to have tried to blame his victim when speaking to probation officers. He described that as “deeply concerning” and said much of what the defendant had told them appeared to be self-serving. The judge said Conn-Peers had minimised the offences and failed to show sufficient empathy or remorse.
When a probation officer asked why he had changed his plea, Conn-Peers replied: “I was advised to change my plea because that would have got me a shorter sentence.”
The judge said that even if the sentence had been short enough to suspend, he would not have been minded to do so because of the risk Conn-Peers posed. A six-year domestic abuse protection order was also imposed.
