Former police officer admits attempting s*xual communication with children

A former Durham Police officer offered to send explicit images of himself to people he believed were girls aged 13 and 15. Haydyn Brunsdon was actually messaging online decoys, Teesside Crown Court heard.

The 31-year-old former police constable, based in Darlington at the time, admitted two charges of attempting to communicate s*xually with a child. The messages were sent during two periods in June and September while Brunsdon was serving as an officer. He was arrested while off duty on 25 September.

Brunsdon previously lived in Darlington and is now from Catterick, North Yorkshire. A separate misconduct charge remains unresolved. His lawyers are expected to seek its dismissal, arguing that the messages were sent outside working hours. If that application fails, a trial is listed for February 2028.

Brunsdon will be sentenced for the offences he admitted once the misconduct charge has been resolved.
