Child rapist sentenced to eight years

A sexual predator that committed a string of sexual offences against two schoolgirls has been jailed.

Kevin Andrew Floyd Ching, of Plymouth appeared at Exeter Crown Court where he was sentenced after previously being convicted of:

  • One count of rape against a child under 16

  • One count of sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13

  • Two counts of indecent assault on a female child aged under 13

The court was told that in 2003, Ching – who was aged in his mid 20’s – befriended the mother of one of the victims, who lived in a nearby flat in neighbouring block, although there was no romantic involvement between the adults.

During the summer of 2003, Ching began to groom both schoolgirls by regularly visiting each of their family’s flats.

The victims were both girls aged 14 and 12 years old.

He was very friendly with both girls between August and October 2003, as the mobile phone records recovered when the matter came to the attention of the police showed. There were over 1400 texts and calls between the three of them during this period.

On 23rd October, one of the victims who was 14 years old, formally complained that Ching had raped her.

At trial Ching admitted that he had had sexual intercourse with her the day before and that is what led to his plea of guilty.

Following the first victims complaint to her mother, the second victim who was 12 years old admitted that Ching had sexually touched her on two occasions and had pursuaded her into having sexual intercourse with him.

It was the sexual touching which led to the two counts of indecent assault and the sexual intercourse which led to the count of sexual intercourse with a girl under 13.

The prosecution called medical evidence which showed that both girls had injuries to their hymens consistent with the statements that they had made to police.

The jury was told that the hymen can rip or tear during first penetrative intercourse, which usually results in pain and sometimes bleeding.

Semen was also found in the 14 year olds vagina which matched Ching’s DNA.

Ching had repeatedly lied and protested his innocence, only admitting to some of the offences after scientific and medical evidence was presented to court. Ching showed absolutely no remorse for his actions during his trial.

Although Ching admitted to one offence during the trial, the jury found him unanimously guilty of the remaining three sexual offence charges he faced

His Honour Judge Griggs sentenced Ching to a total of eight years’ imprisonment and told him that he must register as a sex offender for life.
