John Clifford Davies raped a girl in care in the 1980s. He was also convicted of two other rape charges, three of indecent assault, and two of indecency with a child under 11 in the 1970s, following a trial.

He was also convicted of one rape and two charges of sexual assault against another woman when she was a teenage girl in 2007.

But he was cleared of a charge of rape against her.

Davies, of Abergele Road in Colwyn Bay, had denied all 12 charges. He claimed the victims were making it up.

Today at Mold crown court, Judge Rhys Rowlands jailed him for a total of 24 years with an additional year on extended licence.

He must also register as a sex offender for life.

During his trial the court heard Davies had befriended a girl while he was working at a care home in Prestatyn.

He would take her out to pubs and buy her drinks, and she had felt flattered by the attention.

But then one night he drove her to a secluded spot and raped her.

Davies had also taken her to his own home, and the victim had been able to describe his house in detail.

Judge Rowlands told Davies that he had been convicted “on the most compelling evidence”.
