Homeless paedophile stole from woman who gave up her bed for him

A homeless man has been jailed for stealing from a Good Samaritan who took him in and gave him a roof over his head.

Janick Wilson took advantage of the kindness of 64-year-old Dorothy Weir, who was so alarmed at seeing him sleeping rough that she gave up her own bed to him and slept on the sofa.

Wilson did not tell her he was a registered sex offender with convictions for 79 offences including theft.

He bullied her into letting him stay for six nights and then stole her phone, Kindle, and satnav when she finally plucked up the courage to kick him out.

He broke the conditions of his sex offenders’ registration by not telling police where he was living and breached a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) by using an internet enabled phone which she lent him.

He has a history of accessing images of very young children on the internet and has a fixation with babies and toddlers in nappies.

Wilson, aged 24, also known as Newstead, of no fixed abode, admitted theft and failing to comply with the sex offenders register and breaching the SHPO.

He was jailed for a total of 13 months by Recorder Mr Rufus Taylor at Exeter Crown Court.

He told him:”Dorothy Weir was on any view a Good Samaritan.

She said you could stop with her for a night or two but you stayed for six days and even slept in her bed while she slept on the sofa.

“She described your controlling behaviour and her feeling she had to give you money.

You made her house untidy and made it unpleasant for her to live in. You commandeered her Kindle and would not let her use it.

“When you eventually left you took her phone, the Kindle, speakers and a satnav with a total value of £430. In my view there was a breach of trust. You also have previous convictions for dishonesty.”

Gordon Richings, prosecuting, said Ms Weir’s home in Torquay overlooks the Fleet Street shopping area and she went to investigate after seeing a man lying down on the ground and apparently unwell. She found Wilson and took her into her home for the night.

She found it hard to get rid of him and when he left she noticed property had been stolen. Wilson was already in breach of the sex offenders register because he had failed to tell police of his movements when he was sleeping rough on Torquay seafront.

He also broke the SHPO by not registering an old phone which Ms Weir gave him.

Man with nappy fetish broke sex offenders order

A man with a nappy fetish has admitted breaking the terms of the sex offenders register after he became homeless in South Devon.

Janick Wilson failed to comply with the registration regime and also broke a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) which requires him to tell the police about any internet accessible device in his possession.

Both orders were imposed at Exeter Crown Court in December 2015 when Wilson was jailed for ten months for accessing indecent images of babies in nappies on his phone and tablet computer.

Wilson, aged 24, also known as Newstead, of no fixed abode, admitted failing to comply with the sex offenders register and breaching the SHPO.

He also admitted stealing a Satnav, a tablet computer, a mobile phone and speakers from a woman during June this year.

He appeared at Exeter Crown Court by video link from the city’s prison and Judge Erik Salomonsen adjourned his case so he can be brought to court to be sentenced next week.

In the previous case in 2015, he was jailed after he was caught with a Blackberry and a tablet computer during a routine check by police officers from the public protection team.

Mr Kevin Hopper, defending, said a probation pre sentence report which was prepared for an earlier hearing will be available to the sentencing judge.

He said he was fixing the gadgets for a friend but when experts studied the SD memory cards they found Wilson had been downloading indecent images.

He told police they would not find any images but experts analysed the memory cards and found a total of 373 including two at Category B, which shows children taking part in sexual activity.

The images were of children aged two to 14 and a number of them were of very young children in nappies.

Sex offender with obsession with babies in nappies jailed for indecent images

A Devon sex offender with an obsession with babies in nappies has been jailed after police found indecent images on a phone and a tablet computer.

Janick Wilson was banned from using the internet without police approval but acquired the two devices secretly and used them to download more than 350 images.

The 23-year-old was found with a Blackberry and a tablet computer during a routine check by police officers from the public protection team this summer.

He said he was fixing the gadgets for a friend but when experts studied the SD memory cards they found Wilson had been downloading more images.

Wilson was a registered sex offender who has already served a 15 month sentence for downloading images. He had moved from his home in Norwich to Torbay to start a new life when he was caught.

Wilson, of no fixed abode and previously of Paradise Place, Norwich, admitted two offences of possessing indecent images of children and one of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

He was jailed for ten months by Judge Erik Salomonsen at Exeter Crown Court, who also ordered Wilson to remain subject to the SHPO and to remain on the sex offenders register for seven years.

He told him:”You are in the grip of an addiction and appear to be obsessed with indecent images of very young children. You have been before the courts on a number of occasions.

“These offences came to light when a officer made a routine visit and found a Blackberry and a tablet. Despite your explanations, they were found to contain photographs.

“In view of your history of repeated breaches of the SHPO it is inevitable you must go to custody. I hope you will be able to access help for your addiction.”

Mr Peter Coombe, prosecuting, said Wilson told police he had bought the Blackberry for £5 and was hoping to repair and sell it. He said the tablet belonged to the same friend and he was mending it.

He told police they would not find any images but experts analysed the memory cards and found a total of 373 including two at Category B, which shows children taking part in sexual activity.

Mr Coombe said:”The images were of children aged two to 14 and a number of them were of very young children in nappies, which seems to be a particular interest of this defendant.”

He said Wilson has 33 previous convictions and had served a 15 month sentence for similar offences. He had been subject to a SHPO since being convicted of downloading images at Norwich Crown Court in 2011 but had broken it repeatedly.

He was convicted of breaching the order at Norwich in April this year by downloading more images and again in Torbay in July for failing to tell police about ownership of a mobile phone.

Mr Kevin Hopper, defending, said Wilson accepts he has a problem and wants help from the probation service in dealing with it, even though this approach has not succeeded in the past.
