Paedophile pensioner with an “appalling” record of child abuse jailed

A paedophile, aged 83, with an “appalling” record of child abuse has been told he is likely to die in jail after being convicted of historic sex offences against two vulnerable boys.

Dennis White was already serving life for abusing a boy when a jury found him guilty of four serious sexual offences and six indecent assaults against two other victims.

White, whose offending dates back to 1955, was branded “evil and depraved” when he was jailed for life in 1997 and told he must serve at least eight years.

He has now been given another life sentence with a minimum of eight years in jail, but a judge said he still posed a “very serious risk” to the public.

Sentencing White for his latest convictions at Hull Crown Court, which are for offences in the early 1970s, Judge Simon Jack told him: “These are extremely serious matters.

“I’m perfectly satisfied, having listened to the evidence from the two complainants, that they have been very seriously affected by what you did to them all those years ago.

“It’s lived with them to the point where eventually they felt obliged to come forward and give their accounts to the court.

“You are a man with an appalling record for sexual offences against boys.

“The reality is you are now 83 years old and it may well be you will spend the rest of your life in prison.

“I take the view that you have been a very dangerous offender so far as the public are concerned, and I’m satisfied that you still represent a very serious risk, despite your advanced years.”

White, who showed no emotion as he was led away to the cells, regularly abused the boys over a two-year period in west Hull.

David Gordon, prosecuting, told the court White urged one of his victims to “keep quiet” about the abuse and would give him “goodies”, including lemonade and cigarettes.

The other victim said he could hear White abusing other boys in a caravan, and heard shouts of “get off”.

White also asked the boy to dress in a skirt and a brown wig and took Polaroid photographs of him.

When White was arrested and interviewed, he admitted one sexual assault but denied anything else happened.

He said he used to have a sexual interest in boys but no longer did.

When White, who used to run a second-hand shop in Hessle Road, was first jailed for abusing the other boy, neighbours recalled seeing numerous children being brought to his home in a red van.
