Tory Councillor guilty of child porn

Tory Councillor (Felixstowe/Suffolk), David Smith – Accepted a police caution for downloading child porn in 2004. Placed on the sex offenders register for 5 years.

A TORY councillor and school governor has quit both posts in shame after admitting downloading internet child porn.

David Smith, 39, denied ten specimen charges of making indecent photographs of children when arrested.

But this week he admitted the offences and accepted a formal police caution just days before he was due to appear before magistrates.

His name was given to cops after the FBI found his credit card was used to subscribe to a US child porn website.

Smith, of Felixstowe, Suffolk, accepted he had downloaded the pictures — but insisted it was not deliberate.

He has now resigned from Suffolk Coastal Council and Felixstowe Town Council and as governor of Langer Primary School, Felixstowe. He said: “I made a very serious and genuine mistake.”

But he added: “The images were at the very lowest end of the scale of seriousness.”
