Teacher who had sex with school pupil is jailed for 15 months

TEACHER who had sex with a pupil has been jailed for 15 months.

Metab Yasin, who worked at Nottingham Emmanuel School, in West Bridgford, got the girl pregnant and then persuaded her to have an abortion at six weeks.

A jury had unanimously found the married 30-year-old guilty of five sex charges and cleared him of four others in June.

He was jailed at Nottingham Crown Court yesterday and was told he would be placed on the sex offenders register for ten years.

The court heard Yasin did not force the girl to have sex with him.

Judge Michael Stokes QC said: “This activity is an offence for one reason only, namely at the relevant time you were a person in a position of trust, namely a teacher at the school she attended.”

At Yasin’s trial, unanimous guilty verdicts were returned on five charges of sexual activity by a person in a position of trust. He was cleared of three charges of sexual activity with a child and one of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

Yasin, of Poplar Avenue, Sherwood, denied all the allegations.

He said he gave the girl advice after she left school and over a period of time she called him “a good friend”.

In police interviews, he told detectives the girl – who by then had left the school – tried to make an advance to him when he dropped her off after an event at school.

He said he told her to get off him and had told his wife about the incident.

The IT teacher has since been sacked from his job. His barrister said yesterday he will never be able to teach again.

The court heard he had been ostracised by a number of people at the time of the trial and since.

Michael Duck, in mitigation, said: “He has been abused on the street and people have thrown things at his premises.

“He is now working with a friend in the building trade.”
