Sex offender jailed again for child porn images

A convicted sex offender was found with over a thousand indecent images of children on his mobile phones.

Daile Meeks, 44, was jailed in 2001 for having sex with a 13-year-old girl he had contacted over the internet.

Meeks was arrested again on July 7 last year after Bedfordshire Police had been contacted by colleagues in West Yorkshire, Luton Crown Court heard on Friday.

Prosecutor Natalie Carter said the FBI had identified a man in West Yorkshire who had been sexually abusing his 12-month old daughter.

Meeks, of Clifton Road, Henlow, was found to be one of the 275 contact names found on that man’s computer.

When officers went to his home they seized his BlackBerry and 3G mobiles.

On those they found indecent still and video images of young girls.

There were 719 were at Level 1, 57 were at Level 2, 86 at Level 3, 144 at Level 4 and 5 at Level 5. They had been collected over an eightmonth period.

Mrs Carter said the Level 4 and 5 images involved adult males having sex with girls aged under 13.

Explicit text messages were also found in which a female referred to Meeks as ‘Daddy’.

He had been jailed in 2001 for 30 months after meeting the 13-year old girl in a hotel in South Wales.

During their four-day stay he had sex with her, performed an act of gross indecency and took indecent photographs of her.

He had collected other images of underage girls at that time.

Christopher Strachan, defending, said Meeks had never received proper treatment for his offending.

He said that Meeks told a probation officer that he knew what he was doing at the time was wrong but couldn’t stop.

He said Meeks was the carer for his 82-year old mother, who would suffer is he was jailed.

Judge Daniel Serota QC sentenced him to nine months jail, placed him on the Sex Offenders’ Register for ten years and banned him from working with children.

He told him: “These offences are so serious only a custodial sentence can be justified.”
