A NEWPORT man was released on bail yesterday, after admitting possessing more than 18,000 indecent images of children.
Stephen Cowell, 48, of Morley Close, Bishpool, appeared in Newport Crown Court yesterday where he pleaded guilty to 16 counts of making indecent images of children, one count of possessing a total of 18,491 images, and one count of possessing a total of 468 extreme pornographic images.
Prosecutor Steve Harmes said the offences took place between September 2, 2008 and March 4, 2010.
Judge Rhys Rowlands released Cowell on conditional bail, while pre-sentence reports are compiled. He will be sentenced next month.
Judge Rowlands said: “In view of the number of images of levels four and five, custody is going to be inevitable in this case I would have thought.”
