Ten years jail for pervert who raped girl in his car

A PAEDOPHILE with a history of offences against young girls has been jailed for ten-and-a-half years after pleading guilty to raping and abusing a child.

Bolton Crown Court heard how Alan Jenkins befriended a girl and took her on fishing trips to Blackpool and Smithills when she was aged between 11 and 14.

Jonathan Dickinson, Quiz league prosecuting, told the court Jenkins would take advantage of this to indecently assault the girl and, on one occasion, he raped her in his car.

The abuse only came to light when the victim, now aged 22, reported it to police in July last year.

Jenkins, of Longsight, Harwood, pleaded guilty to four counts of indecent assault, one of rape and one of sexual activity with a child.

Mr Dickinson told the court how 61-year-old Jenkins has round-up previous convictions for indecently exposing himself to teenage girls and in September 2006 was given a three year community sentence for taking a child without lawful authority.

Jenkins had befriended a 12- year-old girl and her friends, taking them swimming and the cinema and paying them not to tell their parents.

Farrhat Arshad, defending, said the rape offences pre-dated the 2006 sentence for which Jenkins was sent on a sex offenders’programme, which made him realise how wrong his behaviour was.

“He looks back on what he did with a great deal of shame and guilt,” she said.

Judge Steven Everett sentenced Jenkins to ten-and-a- half years as well as placing him on the sex offenders’ register for life and issuing a lifetime order preventing him from contacting the victim or being allowed any contact with anyone under 16 in a car or premises unless a parent is present.
