Paedophile jailed for sex attacks

A paedophile has been jailed for three-and-a-half years after admitting sexual activity with an 11-year-old girl.

Bristol Crown Court was told Mark Sweet, 41, persuaded the girl, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, to carry out sex acts on him two or three times a week over a three-month period in 2003.

When the girl moved away from the area in 2003 Sweet immediately turned his attentions to another girl, who was seven years old.

The court heard the mother of the child thought her daughter was visiting Sweet, now of no fixed address, to play on his computer .

But she later discovered he had enticed her daughter into his home to carry out the same sort of sexual activity he had with his previous victim.

In a Crown Court trial in 2006, Sweet was jailed for two years for the assaults on the seven-year-old.

The previous incidents involving the 11-year-old then came to the attention of the police in 2008 when she told her mother Sweet had made her commit the sex acts on him.

Sweet, who is currently in prison for the earlier offence, admitted three new offences of sexual activity with a child.

Judge Jamie Tabor said: “You are a man who is interested in pubescent children.”

He jailed Sweet for three-and-a-half years and imposed a 10-year sex offender protection order, which bans Sweet from being alone with any child under the age of 16 without an adult being present.

Sweet will also go on the sex offenders’ register.
