HMP Durham Prison officer Brian Bestford, 49, of Witton Gilbert, near Durham City was convicted at Durham Crown Court earlier this week of downloading child pornography from the Internet.
He was given a two-year conditional discharge, and will not be required to sign the sex offenders register.
