Child-sex beast locked up after admitting rape attacks on girl

A PAEDOPHILE has been jailed for repeatedly raping a schoolgirl over a period of several years, beginning when she was aged just 11.

Patrick Davey was caged for 15 years and told by a judge that it had been a “nightmare” for his victim and had badly affected her.

Davey, of Hardwick Court, South Normanton, admitted on the second day of his trial at Derby Crown Court five charges of rape and two of sexual assault on the girl.

The 50-year-old further pleaded guilty to six charges of sexually assaulting a child and another of causing a child to engage in sexual activity.

Judge Amjad Nawaz told Davey that reports indicated he continued to pose a risk of causing further harm in the future.

But he said it was hoped he would be able to undergo treatment and counselling while he was in custody to resolve the problem.

He told Davey: “It is my desire and hope that work can be carried out with you while you are in custody to alleviate the risk you pose.”

He ordered him to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Christine Hale, in mitigation, said that, after the trial began, Davey finally acknowledged his guilt and spared his victim the ordeal of having to give evidence.

She said: “He accepts his wrongdoing and his remorse and regret are genuine.”

After the hearing, Detective Constable Terryl Shoebridge, of the Derby child abuse investigation unit, said: “It is a very good result, both in terms of the sentence and for some closure it can bring the victim and her family.

“She was very brave to come forward and speak out and she should be proud of herself for finding that courage to come to the police in the first place.”
