Man jailed for child porn stash

RUNCORN man has been jailed for downloading more than 27,000 child porn images from the internet.

Yan Ming Chan, 25, of Poplar Close, Runcorn, was arrested in June last year when police found a total of 27,152 indecent images on his laptop computer, of which around 1,000 were of an extreme nature. He was jailed for 15 months after admitting 17 child porn-related charges at Warrington Crown Court.

Hong Kong national Chan, who signed on the sex offenders’ register for ten years, has lived in England on and off since he was 18 and had been married to a British woman for three years, although this relationship ended when the offences came to light.

Judge David Hale said: “No-one could look at those images without realising that children were being abused for the pleasure of those who watched it and you deliberately watched it, deliberately put it on CDs and obviously had considerable interest in this matter.

“This is a serious offence towards the top end of the scale for people who hold items of this nature.”

Det Con Stuart McIntosh, of Cheshire Police’s paedophile unit, added: “It was a very sound decision and we appreciate the fact it was a prompt guilty plea and sends a message out to people who dabble in this that the courts don’t look favourably upon it.”
