Man jailed over child pornography

A former driving instructor has been jailed after police found a stash of child pornography at his home.

Michael Shelton had more than 1,000 indecent pictures of children on his computer when police went to his Halstead home last August.

Some of them had been looked at only the day before, Chelmsford Crown Court heard yesterday.

Shelton, 36, was jailed for four months after he admitted 15 charges of making and seven of possessing indecent images of children.

He also received an extended licence, which means if he offends again within three years he could be sent back to jail.

Samantha Leigh, prosecuting, said police took away a computer and discs belonging to Shelton after they went to his home in Bois Hall Gardens, Halstead.

When experts examined the computer and discs, they found a total of 1,059 indecent pictures of children.

David Holborn, mitigating, said Shelton was now starting to acknowledge the harm done to children through abuse.

There was little chance of him offending in this way again, Mr Holborn said.
