Vile paedophile jailed for having 3,871 ‘bestial’ images of children

A dad who distributed indecent photographs of children over the internet has been jailed for 21 months.

Paul Jones traded the vile images with other people from his computer, where he stored thousands of pictures of child pornography.

And the 46-year-old met up with a user he had communicated with to leer over pictures of the other man’s young daughter.

Rachel Marshall, prosecuting, told Swindon Crown Court that Jones, from Corsham, had been arrested in January as a result of information from another police force.

She said a number of pieces of computer equipment had been taken away, examined by officers and found to contain 3,871 indecent images of children.

Of those pictures she said almost a quarter were in the more depraved categories and 90 per cent were of children under 13-years-old.

Included in the images was one of a child so young it was still in a nappy and others of girls aged three and nine-years-old.

Miss Marshall said Jones was also found to have gone on to sites to contact other users, engaging in dialogue about his interest in youngsters.

He told the police what he had done when he was questioned saying he knew it was wrong and had tried to stop, but couldn’t.

Jones, of Elley Green, pleaded guilty to five charges distributing indecent images of children, eight of making them and one of possession.

Rosie Walsh, defending, said that her client had never actually had contact with a child and was looking at and passing on images over the internet.

She said the distribution was relatively small scale and just to other users, and not sophisticated as he was using an email account bearing his name.

Jailing him, Judge Jamie Tabor QC said: “First of all I shall state the obvious. Persons who view images of this nature are indirectly causing untold distress and harm to children. Something that you are patently aware of.

“The images that you downloaded, the worst images are so bestial and so terrible that I can’t for a moment imagine that any child that suffered these gross insults will not be anything but severely damaged, if not physically than psychologically.

“It is because people like you have an appetite for this sort of image that they are taken.”

The judge banned him from working with children and told him he must register as a sex offender for ten years.
