Paedophile jailed for two years

A “HIGH risk” paedophile will be out of prison in two years after being convicted of molesting two girls aged 12 and 15.

Graham Halsey, 48, from Tring, blew a kiss to his girlfriend as he was lead from the dock following his sentencing on Friday at St Albans Crown Court.

The court heard how Halsey had sex “a number of times” with the 15-year-old, but cut contact with her soon after she turned 16.

He then befriended the younger girl.

When police raided his home in November 2007 they found her in Halsey’s bed with a packet of condoms next to it.

During the trial it emerged he had told the girl “I want to have sex with you” and touched her in a sexual manner several times.

Judge Marie Catterson said: “You show no remorse, and a lack of understanding of the real damage conduct such as yours can have on your victims.

“I have no doubt you employed persistent cunning in your efforts to gratify you own sexual needs by grooming these two girls, and others if you had succeeded.”

He was convicted by a jury last November of one count of penetrative sexual activity with a child under 16 and sexual activity with a child under 13, for which he received four years each.

He was also found guilty of inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, for which he was given 12 months. All sentences will run concurrently, and he will be eligible for parole in two years.

The judge told him he was of “medium to high risk of reoffending” and gave him an extended licence of four years.

He will also have to sign the sex offenders register, and is banned from working with children or having contact with them without their parents being present.
