Jail term of internet paedophile slashed

The jail term of a middle-aged man who made hundreds of indecent images of children has been slashed, it has emerged.

Guy Gibson, 47, of Meadway, Twickenham, was sentenced to a year behind bars in July after admitting 13 counts of making more than 300 indecent photographs of children.

Gibson was arrested after Kerry Bridges, 23, a friend of his daughter’s, bought his computer and discovered the images as she tried to send an email.

Following his sentence, Miss Bridges launched a petition calling for Gibson to serve the full 12 months.

However, she has learned that his sentence has been cut to eight months.

The mother-of-two said: “We had until July 2010, but now he’s appealed it to eight months – he’ll only serve four and will be out next month.

“We’re still going ahead with the petition, we have to make sure we get as many signatures as we can.

“Even if they made him serve the full eight months, it would be better than nothing.”

Police seized the computer hours after Miss Bridges’ discovery, and found a further 323 indecent photographs and nine indecent movie clips.

Gibson will also be placed on the sex offenders’ register for seven years.

Almost 100 signatures have been collected by Miss Bridges on a paper petition, while an online petition has seen another 100 people add their names in support.
