DARTFORD: Pervert jailed for making and possessing more than 500 indecent images of children
A PERVERT has been given a 12-month prison sentence for making and possessing indecent images of children.
Maidstone Crown Court heard 61-year-old Bernard Payne had 346 indecent images.
Payne, formerly of Mead Crescent, Dartford, also had 215 indecent movie clips.
Prosecutor Jane Scotchmer told the court the material was predominantly of girls aged between three and 14, which was saved by Payne on two hard drives he kept in a safe.
She said Payne saved the images in folders called ‘paedo’ and ‘nonce’.
Payne had pleaded guilty to seven charges of making indecent photographs of children and nine counts of possessing the photographs.
Judge Jeremy Carey said: “There were in total 561 images of which a very substantial quantity were movie clips.
“These are real children who have no real understanding of what is happening to them and who will be damaged to a great extent for the foreseeable future.
“This is commercial activity by those who perpetrate this trade.
“They do it for money and think nothing of the subject of these images.
“In your case you did this for a substantial period of time, not far short of two years in a persistent and organised way making images by saving them to your hard drive.”
Thomas Stern, mitigating, said: “This is not a case with a commercial aspect either in terms of gain or distribution and supply to other people.
“There is no evidence at all that he was part of or close to the creation of the images.”
As well as being jailed Payne received a sexual offences prevention order for seven years and is required to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register.
