Child porn – charity man jailed

A manager with a charity who used his office computer to trawl the internet for child pornography has been jailed for four months.

Michael Richard Williams, 54, from Llanrug, near Caernarfon, in Gwynedd, appeared on Tuesday at Holyhead magistrates court for sentence.

Williams had last month admitted 16 specimen offences of viewing child pornography.

On Tuesday the court heard he had worked at the Tyddyn Mon Centre in Anglesey which helps people with learning difficulties.

Colleagues there had alerted North Wales Police when they discovered obscene material after he left to set up a similar centre elsewhere on the island.

Further images were then found on his home computer in a case involving more than 500 images.

‘Obsessed’

Myrddin Owens, defending, said: “His career and good name have gone.

“He says he accidentally came across the images and became obsessed by them.

“Mr Williams is ashamed of being here. He’s let down himself and his family and it’s the family who will probably suffer more.”

Magistrates said Williams must register as a sex offender for seven years and pay £300 compensation for two replacement computers.
