Man, aged 65, jailed for sex assaults on young girls

A MAN has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison after being found guilty of indecently assaulting girls under 16-years-old.

Kenneth Selley, aged 65, was sentenced at Plymouth Crown Court

He had previously been found guilty by a jury on 10 counts — eight of indecent assault and two attempted indecent assaults on three girls.

The offences occurred in Plymouth — however, Selley’s current address is in Redditch, Worcester.

He had denied 11 charges of sexual offences against the three girls, which took place mostly in the 1980s.

He had denied two indecent assaults on a girl of 16 in 1985, eight indecent assaults on a second girl between 1985 and 1991, when she was 15, and two attempted indecent assaults on a third girl in 1986 and in 1993, when she was 16.

He was found guilty of 10 of the counts at Plymouth Crown Court on July 22. The jury had found him not guilty on one of the charges.

Selley was told yesterday that he will be on the Sex Offenders Register for life. He was also made subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order. The judge, Recorder Ian Pringle QC, said: “I am of no doubt at all that these offences must be met with significant periods of imprisonment.”

Selley was given a range of sentences for the 10 counts, which added up to four-and-a-half years in prison.

He was told he will serve half of the sentence and then will be released on licence. The court also heard that Selley suffers from a medical condition.
