Paedophile caught using chatrooms to exchange sick messages

A father of three who once arranged to meet a 13-year-old girl for sex – only to find it was a police officer – has now been caught using chatrooms to exchange sick messages.

Trevor Spicer, 47, used chatrooms 27 times in breach of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

Judge Paul Darlow told Spicer: “You chose to continue your interest in young children with those with similar interests rather than accessing the help you knew was available to you from police and probation officers”.

Spicer, of Molesworth Road, pleaded guilty to accessing chatrooms in March and April last year.

The order was imposed at the same court when Spicer was jailed for 16 months in 2010 for trying to groom a young girl and then travelling to have sex with her.

He admitted attempting to meet a child under 16 following sexual grooming and trying to engage a child in sexual activity. Spicer thought he was chatting online with a 13-year-old girl but was in fact messaging an undercover police officer.

Judge Darlow handed Spicer a 16-month prison sentence, but suspended it for two years.

Spicer must do 15 days of intensive supervision with the probation service to tackle his offending.

Judge Darlow passed a new seven-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order to control and monitor Spicer’s access to the internet and contact with children.

Jailed for attempted grooming of 13 yr old girl

A FATHER of three has been sentenced to 16 months in prison for attempting to sexually groom a 13-year-old girl over the internet.

Trevor Eric Spicer, 41 of Thanckes Drive, Torpoint, was sentenced at Plymouth Crown Court on Friday. He had already pleaded guilty to attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming and attempting to cause or incite a child to engage in sexual activity.

The court heard how a police officer posed as a 13-year-old girl on a chat website on August 4 and was contacted by Spicer online who made the conversation “sexual”.

The court also heard how Spicer agreed to meet up with the girl in Plymouth and went to meet her at the city’s Brentonside Bus Station the same day.

He bought condoms at the shop in Royal Parade, the court heard, before police arrested him at Brentonside.

Judge Francis Gilbert QC told Spicer: “You bought condoms which clearly indicates that was your intention.”

Spicer, who has already served 100 days in custody, was sentenced to 16 months in prison for both counts, to be served concurrently.

He was also given a ten-year Sexual Offences Prevention Order and will sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for ten years.
