Convicted paedophile admits child assaults

A convicted paedophile has admitted sexually assaulting four young children between 1980 and 1990.

David Trainer, 63, worked on a number of well-known films and children’s TV programmes during the decade.

He pleaded guilty to a total of 14 new charges relating to attacks on two boys and two girls at Inner London Crown Court on Wednesday.

His victims came forward after learning of his previous 2011 conviction for sexual assaults against young girls.

The four victims, who are now adults, were aged between seven and 13-years-old when they were attacked.

Some of the assaults were carried out at Trainer’s home on the Loughborough estate in Brixton when children were allowed to stay with him.

Other attacks took place at the homes of the children’s parents, while some assaults were carried out at a folk music festival.

London Crown Prosecution Service lawyer Varinder Hayre, said: “David Trainer was a man who had worked on well-known films and children’s programmes, and as a photographer, when he manipulated these children into gratifying his sexual desires.

“He abused the trust of these children and their parents to damage lives.

“These guilty pleas will spare those victims from having to attend a trial and we thank them for supporting this prosecution.”

Trainer will be sentenced on 11 August at Inner London Crown Court.

Paedophile victims finally see abuser caged after waiting 21 years for justice

A paedophile who sexually assaulted a number of young girls in the 1980s has been jailed after a 21 year wait for justice.

Photographer David Trainer, from Lambeth, was convicted of a number of counts of sexual assault on several young girls who he attacked at his flat or nearby swimming baths in Brixton.

The 56-year-old was jailed for eight years on Wednesday at the Inner London Crown Court.

Trainer, nicknamed ‘Bungie’, carried out a string of assaults on the girls when he was involved in photography and childrens television programmes.

He attacked his victims when he was babysitting them or taking them swimming.

Young children from the Loughborough Estate in Brixton often visited his flat, some of them stayed overnight.

A judge ordered Trainer to sign on the Sex Offenders Register for life and he was made the subject of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO).

DC Kevin Snow from the Lambeth Child Abuse Investigation Command said: “Justice for the victims has been a long time coming. We recognise that the verdict can never restore the lost childhood suffered by the victims but it proves it is never too late to hold an offender accountable for his crimes, it is never too late for justice to be done.

“The victims demonstrated remarkable strength and courage in coming forward. This was an extremely difficult case and I commend the victims for their resolve and fortitude throughout the investigation and subsequent trial.

“It is hoped this verdict will send out a strong message to offenders that the Metropolitan Police Service will pursue allegations no matter how long ago the incidents occurred.”

Police believe there may be others who were victims of David Trainer. They are encouraged to call the Lambeth Child Abuse Investigation Team on 020 7232 6397 in order to speak to a specialist investigator.
