Aberdeen RAF corporal fined for indecent images of children

An RAF corporal caught with child pornography at his Aberdeen home has been fined.

Robert Waud, 38, was caught after a man he sent an indecent image to called in police, the city’s sheriff court heard.

Waud admitted taking, or permitting to be taken, indecent images of children and distributing an image.

He was fined £4,500 and placed on the sex offenders register for five years. He now faces an internal investigation by air force chiefs.

Sheriff Annella Cowan said: “Matters have been hanging over this man’s head for two years, during which time he has continued to serve conscientiously.

“He hasn’t been able to carry out the full range of duties because the bail conditions have prevented him from working abroad.”

She explained: “There is no getting away from the seriousness of what is called child pornography.”

However Sheriff Cowan added: “It seems to me in the whole circumstances that, if at all possible, it is more important you maintain a useful role in the armed forces.”

Waud admitted the offences at his home in the city’s Maberly Street.
