Judge Mary Mowat – Lenient judges

Judge Mary Mowat – Oxford/Reading crown court

Here is Judge Mary Jane Mowat. She is a judge who seems to think that the abuse of children is not a serious enough crime to warrant a custodial sentence. She fails to understand the long lasting impact these evil offences have on the young and vulnerable child survivors. The sentences are quite simply a insult to the victims involved.

Judge Mary Jane Mowat you are hereby NAMED AND SHAMED !

Below are some examples and quotes of some of his more questionable judgements

July 2011 Judge Mowat has let a paedophile teacher walk free after telling him she did not criticise him for being attracted to children.

Supply teacher David Armstrong had admitted hoarding more than 4,500 indecent images of children. But handing the 63-year-old pervert a suspended sentence, Judge Mary Jane Mowat said: ‘I don’t criticise you for being a teacher who’s attracted to children. Many teachers are but they keep  their urges under control both when  it comes to children and when it comes to images of children.’

January 2010 – Ex-soldier, 41, who had sex with 13-year-old girl spared jail as judge Mowat says teenager ‘did most of the running’, Nigel Thomson, 41, had sex with the schoolgirl in his room at the officers’ academy. Ruling that Thomson had acted out of ‘stupidity rather than malice’, the judge said she regarded the offence as a ‘one-off incident’ and did not view him as a ‘general danger to young girls’.

February 2012 – Peeping Tom Voyeur Birendra Limbu, 34, admitted eight counts of taking indecent photographs of a child. Judge Mowat gave Limbu, 32 months’ supervision with a requirement to participate in the sex offenders’ group-work programme. Again no jail

In 2008 – Judge Mowat allowed a former headmaster to walk free from court after he said drugs he was taking for Parkinson’s disease made him a paedophile. Phillip Carmichael said the medication caused him to become ‘hypersexually active’ after he was caught with 8,000 images and videos on his computer. The judge said the case was ‘wholly exceptional’ and gave him an absolute discharge.

2006 – Robert Prout, 54 was convicted of abusing a 12-year-old girl, judge Mowat admitted she would normally give a suspended sentence but recent public criticism influenced her decision to jail him for ten months. Prout had been found guilty of five counts of indecent assault. He started inappropriately touching his victim and simulating sex with her when she was only 11. Most of the abuse happened in 1970 when she was 12 or 13 and the last indecent assault took place when she was 16. Sentencing guidelines allowed for up to 5 years imprisonment!

January 2010 – Nigel Thomason, 41 received a suspended prison sentence for 2 years at Oxford Crown Court for Sexual Activity with a Child

Judge Mary Mowat said: “…You did something you knew was very wrong and ended up having sex with a girl that was only 13. Whether you knew her age or not, you had the duty as a man in his 40′s to make sure she was the legal age”

Judge Mary Mowat added “She was just short of 14 yrs old. There are many girls of 14 years old in this country that are sexually active, this may not be a good thing but it must be recognized . She has indicated she does not want you to go to prison. Although she was vulnerable, you too in a sense are vulnerable as you are a simple man. What occurred was stupidity rather than malice”
