Teesside brothers who raped and sexually abused child jailed for total of 45 years

Two brothers who raped and repeatedly sexually abused the same child victim have been jailed for over 45 years.

Maurice Edwards, 74, and John Edwards, 64, were both young men when they carried out the abuse. Their victim was a child when the offences first began.

The two were found guilty of a number of sexual offences, by a jury, after a two week trial at Teesside Crown Court.

Judge Jonathan Carroll jailed Maurice Edwards, of Tithe Barn Road in Stockton, for 27-years-and-six-months for two counts of rape and indecent assault.

John Edwards, of May Street in Hartlepool, was jailed for 18-years with an added one-year extended licence period, for two counts of rape and two counts of indecency with a child.

They were both made the subject of a lifelong restraining order, preventing them from contacting their victim and they will both sign the sex offenders’ register, on release from prison
