Man with ‘deviant sexual motivation’ abused schoolgirl
A man who sexually abused a schoolgirl has been given an extended sentence as a dangerous offender who poses a high risk of harm to young girls.
Frantisek Mirga engaged in sexual activity with a 15-year-old child in what Cardiff Crown Court heard was an “opportunistic crime”.
The court heard the incident has had a devastating effect on the victim who feels “completely torn and broken apart” and unable to trust any man.
The court heard the incident took place at a location in Newport, Gwent, in November 2022 after the defendant had been drinking heavily.
Frantisek Mirga, 39, of Corporation Road, Newport, had previously been convicted at trial of sexual activity with a child when he appeared in the dock for sentencing.
He has a previous conviction in the UK for handling stolen goods from 2015, and offences in his native Czech Republic for theft and illegal entry into private property.
Mirga was given a 10-year extended sentence as a dangerous offender comprising seven years in custody followed by a three-year licence period.
The defendant must serve two-thirds of the custodial element of the sentence before he can apply for release but it will be for the Parole Board to determine if he is safe to be let out.
He will be on the sex offenders register indefinitely, and he was made the subject of sexual harm prevention order to control his contact with children.
