Benny Adams, 37, of Brighouse, was found guilty after a four-day trial of charges relating to the sexual abuse of his victim.

In a statement read out in court, the child’s mother said the abuse had left the youngster very damaged.

The child had nightmares in which the assaulter had ‘red eyes.’ Adams was sentenced over a video link to HMP Leeds where he was remanded in custody.

The jury found him guilty of rape and sexual abuse against his victim.

Adams’ barrister, Anastasis Tasou, said his client would be spending a very long time in prison and that would change the rest of his life.

Recorder Gavin Doig sentenced Adams to 13 years for rape and imposed concurrent prison sentences for the sexual abuse matters.

He will have to serve at least two-thirds of the jail term behind bars.

Adams will also have to register as a sex offender with the police for the rest of his life and comply with an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
